Job summary

The CORE Institute in Fort Myers, FL is seeking an Authorization Specialist to monitor and document authorizations for upcoming cases with physicians’ calendars, ensuring timely approvals for office visits and procedures.

You will maintain authorization details in the patient's chart, coordinate with Medical Assistants, and support insurance verification and referral processes while upholding privacy and HIPAA guidelines.

Qualifications

• Understanding of organization and billing requirements and authorization process.
• Knowledge of medical terminology.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, Outlook).
• Knowledge of insurance plans and procedures.
• Adherence to policies, safety, attendance and personal appearance standards.
• Ability to build effective working relationships with management and peers.
• Ability to multitask in a fast-paced environment and be detail-oriented.
• Ability to analyze data.

Responsibilities

• Contact insurance companies to determine if authorization is needed for injections, imaging, in-office procedures, and visits.
• Obtain and document authorization and benefit details and attach to claims.
• Coordinate with Medical Assistants and update them on authorization status.
• Maintain copies of requests and results with reference numbers.
• Assist in insurance verification and referral authorization processes.
• Communicate with patients to obtain accurate insurance information.
• Attend monthly staff meetings and participate in educational activities.
• Maintain real-time authorization chats via Athena and Outlook.
• Oversee medication sign-out, order requests, and claim reviews.
• Manage inventory of drugs and ensure security within the facility.
• Restock, label, collect, and submit inventory/requests for medications.
• Track follow-ups and schedule patients accordingly.
• Maintain productivity and timeliness of claims reimbursement.
