Job summary

NCH Healthcare System in Naples, FL is seeking a qualified Medical Assistant for a per diem 8-hour day position in the MSK Clinic. This role supports patient flow, basic care, and collaboration with providers.

Ideal candidates have a High School diploma, 1 year MA clinic experience, BLS, and CPT/ICD9 knowledge; orthopedic and phlebotomy experience preferred. Proficiency with EMR and MS Office is required.

Qualifications

  • High School diploma or GED required.
  • 1 year Medical Assistant experience in a clinical setting.
  • Orthopedic experience preferred.
  • Phlebotomy experience preferred.
  • AAOS ROT certificate preferred.
  • Completion of Medical Assistant or PN training with practicum hours; OR MA certification; OR 1 year relevant experience.
  • BLS certification required from Red Cross or AHA.
  • Ability to take accurate patient vital signs.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Knowledge of CPT and ICD9 codes.
  • Proficient with Word, Excel, Outlook; Windows familiarity.
  • Capable of working under pressure in a fast-paced clinic.

Responsibilities

  • Fulfills patient care responsibilities as assigned and manages patient flow.
  • Escort patients to exam rooms and observe/report reactions.
  • Assist with walking, transfers, dressing, specimen collection, and exam prep.
  • Collect patient history including medications, allergies, and symptoms.
  • Provide patient care per provider guidance; assist with screenings and treatments.
  • Assist providers with procedures as needed.
  • Document in EMR and relay instructions to patient/family.
  • Answer patient calls/messages and liaise between patient and provider.
  • Assist with casting, splinting, wound care, and DME fitting.
  • Handle clerical duties such as filing, sending records, and scheduling.
  • Collect and handle lab specimens; adhere to infection control guidelines.
  • Process electronic referrals for physician referrals to NCHMD specialists.

JOB SUMMARY

The Medical Assistant is responsible for providing basic care to patients following established standards and practices.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
  • – Other duties may be assigned.
  • Fulfills patient care responsibilities as assigned, which may include checking schedules and organizing patient flow.
  • Escorting patients to exam/procedure rooms. Observes, records and reports patient observations and reactions to drugs and treatments to providers.
  • Assisting patients as needed with walking, transfers, dressing, collecting specimens, preparing for exam, etc.
  • Collecting patient history including current medications, allergies, symptoms, etc.
  • Provide patient care as directed by the provider; this may include screenings, treatments in accordance with established standards.
  • Assisting providers with various procedures as needed.
  • Documents in the Electronic Medical Record and relays information/instructions to patient/family. Documents all interventions, phone calls, patient/family responses, medication dispensed or prescribed, hospital data.
  • Answering patient phone calls and messages, acting as a communication liaison between the patient and provider.
  • Assisting providers with casting, splinting, wound care, and DME fitting as directed by licensed provider.
  • Fulfills clerical responsibilities as assigned which may include filing or sending medical records to a patient or referral provider, appointment scheduling.
  • Collection and handling of lab specimens following established standards and practices. Adhere to infection control safety guidelines, maintaining equipment, instruments, and stock supplies.
  • Utilizes electronic referrals process to complete requested physician referrals to NCHMD specialists and ancillary services.
EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE AND QUALIFICATIONS
  • Minimum of High School or GED required.
  • 1 year of Medical Assistant experience working in a clinical setting.
  • Orthopedic experience preferred.
  • Phlebotomy experience preferred.
  • AAOS ROT certificate preferred
  • Completion of Medical Assistant or practical nursing training program with documented clinical practicum hours; OR Medical Assistant certification; OR a minimum of one-year experience performing above duties in a medical office setting or medical capacity.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required from the American Red Cross or American Heart Association.
  • Verified ability to take accurate patient vital signs.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills with ability to effectively articulate and explain required information to patients.
  • Knowledge of CPT and ICD9 codes.
  • Intermediate computer knowledge: Uses Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, and Windows
  • Knowledge of basic and specialty specific medical terminology.
  • Capable of working under pressure in a fast-paced environment with frequent interruptions while maintaining a professional demeanor and control.
  • Ability to work with in a team environment and willingness to assist with multiple providers during the clinic day.
