Job summary

KC CARE in Kansas City, MO, is seeking a Medical Assistant to support providers and nursing staff in a walk-in clinic setting, delivering timely, high-quality care under appropriate supervision within the PCMH model.

You will take histories and vitals, prepare patients for exams, collect specimens, administer medications, handle lab coordination, and document in eClinicalWorks. A high school diploma and MA training are required; BLS and CMA or NRCMA certification preferred.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent is required.
• Completion of a Medical Assistant program at an accredited college or university is required.
• Basic Life Support Certification (BLS) is required.

Responsibilities

• Call patients back to rooms and obtain medical history, history of present illness and/or chief complaint, and perform all screening according to procedures and quality measures.
• Prepare patients for examinations, procedures, and treatments including vital signs, height/weight, vision and hearing screening, and EH R documentation.
• Collect specimens, perform on-site laboratory procedures including vaccinations, and maintain current knowledge with documentation and preparation of specimens.
• Administer medications using the 5 Rights of Medication Administration.
• Complete medication reconciliation and allergy verification for every patient.
• Contact patients by phone to deliver normal lab results and for care coordination needs.
• Inventory, stock, and clean exam rooms.

POSITION SUMMARY

Under appropriate medical or nursing supervision, Medical Assistants support providers and nursing staff in delivering timely, high-quality healthcare services in a walk-in clinic setting. Medical Assistants perform related clinical and administrative duties as needed to support efficient patient care and clinic operations, utilizing the Patient-Centered Medical Home (PCMH) model of care within a collaborative, team-based environment.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Call patients back to rooms and obtain medical history, history of present illness and/or chief complaint, and perform all screening required according to current procedures and quality measures .

Prepare patients for examinations, procedures, and treatments to include obtaining vital signs, measure height and weight; perform vision and auditory screening as needed; record all information in e lectronic h ealth r ecord ( EH R) .

C ollect specimens, perform on-site laboratory procedures including providing vaccinations, and maintain current knowledge , including documentation and preparation of specimen s .

Administer medications using the 5 Rights of Medication Administration .

Complete medication reconciliation and allergy verification for every patient .

Contact patients by phone to deliver normal lab results and for additional care coordination needs.

Clinic Flow, Referrals, and Administrative Assistance

Inventory , stock , and clean exam rooms .

Make follow-up appointments in eClinicalWorks ( eCW ) as part of patient visit.

Maintain clinic flow by prioritizing patient’s needs and assisting providers and coworkers with unassigned patient needs .

Assist with prior authorizations .

Create referrals to other members of the patient care team including behavioral health , insurance navigators , community health workers, and with other KC CARE services .

Assist with scanning and faxing patient medical records .

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

H igh school diploma or equivalent .

Completion of a Medical Assistant program at an accredited college or university.

Basic Life Support Certification (BLS) .

PREFERRED REQUIREMENTS

One year’s experience as a Medical Assistant preferably in an Federally Qualified Health Center, or a walk-in/urgent care clinic.

Experience using eClinicalWorks ( eCW ) EHR.

Active certification such as NRCMA, CCMA, CMA.

Working Conditions

General working conditions are in a healthcare facility . As such, t here is a potential exposure to virus , disease , and infection from patients while performing the duties of this j ob. May experience traumatic situations including psychiatric traumatized and deceased patients. Travel may be expected to community meetings, client homes, or other agencies.

Physical Demands

W hile performing duties of this job, employees are regularly required to s i t, walk, and stand; talk and hear; both in person and by telephone; use hands repetitively to finger, handle, feel, or operate standard office or clinical equipment; reach with hands and arms; and occasionally lift up to 20 pounds.
