Medical Assistant - Vaccination Services

Location: Bay Area, California

About MiSalud Health

MiSalud Health is on a mission to make healthcare accessible and affordable for all by removing barriers of language, cost, and circumstance. We believe that the future of medicine lies at the intersection of human expertise and technical creativity. Whether we are building cross-border platform integrations or pioneering AI-augmented care, we lead with compassion and precision to create meaningful change in our patients' lives.

About the Role

MiSalud Health runs on-site health screening events at workplaces (which include laboratory tests, vaccinations, and medical appointments) in CA and other states. We are hiring Medical Assistants to administer vaccines to Spanish- and English-speaking workers at these events.
You will work alongside a California-licensed physician who is physically present at the event site and who supervises every administration under a written Direct Supervision Delegation Order, as California law requires. Your day is patient-facing: intake and screening, consent, vaccine administration, and accurate documentation.
This is a per-diem 1099 contractor position paid hourly. Engagements are scheduled per event, and you may accept or decline each one.

What Actually Matters to Us

  • Clinical Precision: You confirm the correct vaccine, dosage, and route for every patient, and you administer only after the supervising physician has verified the medication and dose.

  • Compassionate Communication: You explain the vaccine, provide the Vaccine Information Statement, and obtain informed consent fluently in both Spanish and English.

  • Operational Integrity: You protect the cold chain, check every lot number and expiration date, and handle sharps and biohazard waste correctly.

  • Extreme Ownership: You own your documentation, from the patient record through registry reporting, and elevate anything that doesn't look right.

What You'll Do

Your work covers the full patient encounter at each event:

  • Patient Intake: Greet and identify each patient, confirm date of birth, verify eligibility against the physician's order, and screen for contraindications and prior reactions.

  • Consent and Education: Provide the current Vaccine Information Statement, answer questions in the patient's preferred language, and obtain and document informed consent.

  • Vaccine Administration: Administer vaccines by the intradermal, subcutaneous, and intramuscular routes, following the supervising physician's verification of medication and dosage prior to each administration.

  • Vaccine Handling: Maintain the cold chain during transport and throughout the event, verify lot numbers and expiration dates, track doses used, and dispose of sharps and biohazard waste per protocol.

  • Documentation: Record patient identifiers, vaccine name, lot number, expiration date, route, anatomical site, administering staff, and date and time for every dose, and enter records into the California Immunization Registry (CAIR2).

  • Adverse Events: Observe patients post-administration, recognize and respond to reactions, elevate immediately to the on-site supervising physician, and support VAERS reporting.

  • Station Support: Help set up and break down the vaccination station, and keep supplies stocked and organized through the event day.

What We're Looking For

Required:

  • Completion of an accredited Medical Assistant program, with your training certificate available for our records

  • At least 18 years of age

  • Documented training in administering injections and skin tests meeting California requirements: a minimum of 10 clock hours of instruction, plus 10 satisfactory intramuscular, 10 subcutaneous, and 10 intradermal injections, and 10 skin tests

  • Current BLS certification (or ability to obtain upon hire)

  • Conversational proficiency in Spanish and English, as our patients are predominantly Spanish-speaking

  • Valid CA driver's license, reliable transportation, and the ability to travel to event sites

  • Comfortable with early morning start times and occasional weekend events

Preferred:

  • 1+ year of experience in vaccination clinics, mobile health, or community health events

  • Familiarity with the California Immunization Registry (CAIR2)

  • CCMA or RMA certification

  • Experience with electronic health record systems

What We Offer

  • $25/hr

  • Paid onboarding and a monthly invoicing cycle

  • Per-event scheduling, with the flexibility to accept or decline any individual engagement

  • A team where your work visibly moves the product and improves community health
