Salary Range: $16.75 To $24.29 Hourly

About the position: As a Medical Assistant at Madison Health, you will be responsible for supporting the patient care treatment process by assisting the physician and other clinical staff in the appropriate delivery of patient care services. Ensures that patients are properly received and the necessary business and record keeping functions are completed prior to the patient receiving medical services. This is a full - time position. Monday through Friday 9AM to 5PM requiring one Saturday shift per month (you will receive a weekday off during that week)

Key job qualities/duties:

  • Assists physician, nurse practitioner or other clinical staff in preparation of patients for examination/procedure. Collect initial patient data including: verify patient name and DOB, vital signs, height and weight, chief complaint for visit, review allergies, over-the-counter medications, self-management goals, and preventative health information (i.e. vaccinations).
  • Performs in-house laboratory tests as ordered by physicians and nurse practitioners. Perform venipuncture and drawing blood/serum specimens.
  • Assists physician or other clinical staff in direct patient care procedures such as colposcopy, skin biopsies, lesion removal, suture removal, dressing changes, incision and drainage, and laceration repair. Performs electrocardiograms, pulse oximetry and spirometry. Administers breathing treatments. Performs ear irrigations and eye washes. Gives patient injections.
  • Cleans exam rooms after use and prepares room for the next patient. Restocks inventory in exam rooms. Participates in assessment of inventory levels and the ordering process. Maintains drug samples, logs, outdates and rotation of stock.
  • Retrieves patient messages, routes to the physician and communicates physician orders back to the patient. Retrieve prescription refill requests from voicemail and call or fax approved prescription requests to pharmacy.
  • Schedules new and return appointments, consultations and testing and procedures. Preparation of consults and referrals per insurance and other payer requirements. Performs pre-certifications and pre-authorizations with insurance companies for services and medications.
  • Greet patient and family promptly in a positive manner upon arrival. Prepare patient chart. Collect patient insurance and demographic information and enter into the IHIS system in accordance with registration policies and procedures. Assess method and/or ability to pay, identify and communicate necessary insurance requirements to other ancillary staff where appropriate; answer patient questions; notify clinical staff of patient arrival.
