Job summary

UPMC is seeking a patient-focused team member for its Outpatient Behavioral Health department. You will build relationships with patients and collaborate with a team of behavioral health professionals in a supportive environment.

Responsibilities include coordinating schedules, answering phones, scheduling follow-ups, verifying insurance, and obtaining authorizations. You will also assist with vitals, patient education, records, and infection control throughout visits.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent is required.
• Must have basic computer skills and knowledge of medical terminology, examination, diagnostic and treatment room responsibilities.

• Clean exam/procedure rooms and equipment between visits and maintain infection control.

• The position works directly with patients, answering phones, scheduling follow-up appointments, verifying insurance, obtaining insurance and medication authorizations, etc.
• Escort patients to exam/procedure rooms.
• Take patient vitals.
• Collect patient information/history, take vitals, and perform screenings per provider guidelines. Relay instructions to patients and families with clarity and compassion.
• Send and receive patient medical records in compliance with HIPAA and other regulations.
• Clean exam/procedure rooms and equipment between visits to maintain infection control and perform scheduled cleaning and record-keeping.
• Answer calls, providing pertinent information and patient education as directed.

Schedule

Monday - Friday, 8AM-4:30PM

Requirements

• High school diploma or equivalent is required.
• Must have basic computer skills and knowledge of medical terminology, examination, diagnostic and treatment room responsibilities.

Licensure, Certifications, and Clearances

• CPR required based on AHA standards that include both a didactic and skills demonstration component within 30 days of hire.
• BLS required within 30 days of hire/transfer
• Basic Life Support (BLS) OR Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR)
• Act 31 Child Abuse Reporting with renewal
• Act 33 with renewal
• Act 34 with renewal
