Job summary

UPMC is hiring a full-time Medical Assistant to support the UPMC Surgery Optimization Clinic team in Harrisburg. Job title and salary will be based on qualifications and career ladder requirements.

Shift hours are 7:30am-4:00pm (Mon, Tue, Thu, Fri) and 8:30am-5:00pm on Wednesdays; no weekends or holidays. The role involves traveling to multiple outpatient locations and assisting with patient flow, vitals, phlebotomy, EKGs, vaccines, and front desk duties under physician supervision.

UPMC is hiring a full-time Medical Assistant to support the UPMC Surgery Optimization Clinic team/office in Harrisburg.
*Job title and salary will be based on qualifications and career ladder requirements.

Shift/Hours: Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday from 7:30am-4:00pm and Wednesdays from 8:30am-5:00pm - No weekends or holidays!

Travel: This position provides the opportunity to support patients across multiple outpatient locations. The role will work at the Polyclinic on Mondays and Fridays and the West Shore Fredricksen Outpatient Center Tuesday through Thursday, with occasional travel to Carlisle approximately two Fridays per month. *HM will discuss schedule expectations and requirements during the interview process.

Responsibilities

• Check schedules and organizing patient flow.
• Assist patients as needed with walking, transfers, dressing, collecting specimens, preparing for exam, etc.
• Collect patient information/history, taking vitals, performing screenings per provider guidelines.
• Send/receive patient medical records in accordance with Health Insurance.
• Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) and other state and federal regulations.
• Prepare and clean patient, exam, and procedure rooms, instruments and equipment between patient visits to maintain infection control.
• Manage inventory of supplies; restocking exam/procedure rooms.
• Comply with requirements of appropriate regulatory agencies (i.e. OSHA, CLIA, PA Department of Health).
• Comply with all UPMC Health System policies and procedures.
• Perform phlebotomy, EKGs, and level one labs.
• Perform clinic procedures according to policy and procedure.
• Answering calls and providing pertinent information including patient education as directed.
• Obtain lab/x-ray reports, hospital notes, referral information, etc.
• Complete forms/requisitions as needed.
• Schedule appointments.
• Prepare and managing charts to ensure information completed and filed appropriately.
• Other front office responsibilities, as required.
• Under the direction and supervision of a physician, administer injectable medication and vaccines when appropriate.
