Job summary

Advocate Health is seeking a Medical Assistant I to support the care team in Charlotte, NC. The role involves clinical and administrative duties essential to patient care, with a focus on safety, privacy, and professionalism.

40 hours per week on day shift, with sign-on bonus eligibility for qualified candidates. Responsibilities include clerical support, vital signs, venipuncture, specimen collection, injections, vaccinations, and coordinating referrals and insurance authorizations.

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or GED required.
  • Completion of an accredited Medical Assistant program or DD214/EMT in lieu of formal MA program.
  • Current AHA BLS certification required.

Responsibilities

  • Follow MA scope of practice and competency requirements.
  • Room patients, obtain vital signs, review medications and screenings.
  • Assist providers with exams, procedures and treatments.
  • Collect specimens, venipuncture, and lab testing as appropriate.
  • Administer medications and vaccines safely.
  • Support care through refills, referrals, scheduling, and insurance authorizations.
  • Cross-train to support clinic and specialty needs.
  • Communicate effectively with patients and care team members.
  • Maintain clean, stocked exam rooms and equipment.
  • Provide age-appropriate care across the lifespan.

Pay Range: $21.85 - $32.80

This position is sign-on bonus eligible if the candidate meets organizational qualifications.

The Medical Assistant I supports the care team by performing clinical and administrative tasks that are vital to patient care. Medical Assistants must adhere to all relevant regulations and guidelines to ensure patient safety and confidentiality. They are expected to maintain a high level of professionalism and compassion during all interactions.

Job Requirements
  • High School Diploma or GED required
  • Completion of an accredited Medical Assistant program or may have completed structured military training which is clinical in nature per DD214 in lieu of a formal medical assistant program or EMT
  • Current American Heart Association (AHA) BLS certification required
Key Responsibilities
  • Follow Medical Assistant scope of practice, policies, and competency requirements.

Required Skills
  • Ability to perform routine and complex technical skills, within the Medical Assistant scope of practice after demonstrated competency
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills; ability to develop rapport and maintain positive, professional relationships with a variety of patients, team members and physicians
  • Proficient computer skills including keyboarding, navigation within a windows operating system, and use of electronic mail with exposure to electronic medical records systems
  • Demonstrates customer service skills that support a positive patient experience
