Orlando Health Medical Group is seeking a Senior Certified Medical Assistant to provide patient care under physician or APP supervision in an ambulatory setting. The role serves as a mentor and leads quality care initiatives.

The Senior CMA will gather patient data, assist during examinations, document treatments in the EMR, and coordinate scheduling and tests with the clinical team. A minimum three years of CMA experience and current BLS are required.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Successful completion of Medical Assistant training from an approved technical school (or equivalent work experience).
• Maintains current BLS Healthcare Provider Certification and CMA/CCMA/CMAC/NCMA/NRCMA/NRA certifications or registration as listed.

Responsibilities

• Assist physicians/APP during examinations and procedures.
• Gathers patient data through interview and observation.
• Enter medication, laboratory and diagnostic imaging orders into the EMR under provider direction.
• Document patient data, treatments, and education per policy.

Job Summary

The Senior Certified Medical Assistant performs patient care under the direction and supervision of the physician or advanced practice provider (APP) in an ambulatory setting. Acts as a leader to help drive quality care and a mentor for professional practice.

Responsibilities

Essential Functions

• Accountable to the Assistant Nurse Manager, Nursing Operations Manager, or Practice Manager for operational issues.
• Embraces and participates in quality initiatives, goal attainment, and clinical outcome process improvement activities
• Supports and demonstrates effective and professional communication with patients and family members
• Works collaboratively with the administrative and operations staff.
• Gathers patient data through interview and observation.
• Assists patients and families with preparation for examination.
• Assists the physician or APP during examination and procedures.
• Demonstrates competency in specific tasks and skills as defined by the practice.
• Provides routine treatments and administers approved medication types as ordered by the provider.
• Enter medication, laboratory and diagnostic imaging orders into the electronic medical system under direction of a provider.
• Documents patient data, treatments, procedures, and patient education according to Orlando Health and department specific policies.
• Assists the physician or APP by acting as a liaison on behalf of the patient to schedule, provide patient with scheduling information to obtain specialty testing, and/or specialty physician consultation.
• Processes incoming and outgoing calls in an independent and professional manner using sound clinical judgment.
• Helps develop and coordinate the orientation process in the assigned practice for Medical Assistants. Acts as preceptor and/or oversees assigned preceptor(s) in collaboration with nursing/clinical leadership and corporate Learning Consultant.
• Supports and helps develop quality strategies within the practice.
• Helps to facilitate and participate in the skills portion of the Annual Clinical Review for Medical Assistants.
• Collaborates with the clinical leadership and education to assess ongoing competence of Medical Assistants.
• Leads and participates in departmental committees and special projects.
• Maintains reasonably regular, punctual attendance consistent with Orlando Health policies, the ADA, FMLA, and other federal, state, and local standards.
• Maintains compliance with all Orlando Health policies and procedures.

Other Related Functions

• Must be able to demonstrate the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care and have the ability to assess data appropriate to the age-specific needs of the patients on his or her assigned department and/or unit.
• Demonstrates awareness of medical/legal issues, patient rights and compliance with standards of regulatory and accrediting agencies.
• Practices the efficient use of supplies.
• Assists business office as needed with reception, scheduling, and discharge of patients.

Qualifications

Education/Training

• High school graduate or equivalent.
• Successful completion of Medical Assistant training from an approved technical school (or at least one (1) year of verifiable and applicable work experience as a Medical Assistant in a patient care setting in addition to the experience required under the Experience section) is required.

Licensure/Certification

Maintains current BLS Healthcare Provider Certification – and Maintains current certification or registry by one of the following agencies:
