Job summary

UPMC-GoHealth Urgent Care is hiring a Medical Assistant to support urgent care centers across Pennsylvania and neighboring regions. You will conduct patient registration, collect vital signs, and assist providers in examinations.

The role offers hands-on training, classroom shadowing, and growth opportunities. Eligible candidates typically have a high school diploma and MA experience or applicable certifications; BLS is required, with CPOE training within 2 weeks if needed.

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or equivalent and 1+ year MA experience OR MA/Nursing/EMT certification within hire period.
  • Certifications: CCMA, CMA, NCMA, NRCMA, ARMA or nursing/EMT/paramedic credentials.
  • BLS certification required at hire; CPOE certification within 2 weeks if MA cert not obtained.

Responsibilities

  • Register patients and verify insurance and eligibility.
  • Process co-pays and schedule appointments.
  • Coordinate referrals to specialists and answer patient questions.
  • Maintain medical records and scanning of charts.
  • Assist with room preparation and specimen collection.
  • Perform point-of-care testing (flu, strep, urinalysis, ECG).
  • Stock supplies and maintain exam rooms and front desk area.

Competitive Pay

This position offers monthly incentive pay based on performance metrics.

Hourly rate starts at $17.00/hr and is based on years of experience. Ongoing opportunities.

Training & Development: Hands on, with classroom and shadowing days alongside peers. Onsite Managers who are and their growth.

The Medical Assistant assists in examination and treatment of patients under the direction of an urgent care provider. Manages the check‑in and registration process, interview patients, measures vital signs (i.e., pulse rate, temperature, blood pressure, weight, and height), and records information on patients' charts.

Draws and collects blood samples from patients and prepares specimens for laboratory analysis.

Prepares treatment rooms for examination of patients.

Qualifications Required

High School Diploma or equivalent AND 1+ years of working experience as a Medical Assistant in a Hospital, Primary Care, Emergency Department, or Urgent Care setting OR One of the following MA certifications at the time of hire (or must obtain within 12 months of hire): CCMA- Certified Clinical Medical Assistant (verified through NHA, National Healthcareer Association) CMA - Certified Health Professionals (verified through CHP, Certified Health Professionals) CMA- Certified Medical Assistant (verified through AAMA, American Association of Medical Assistant) CMA - AAH American Allied Health RMA- Registered Medical Assistant (verified through AMT, American Medical Technologists) NCMA- National Certified Medical Assistant (verified through NCCT, National Center for Competency Testing) NRCMA- Nationally Registered Medical Assistant (verified through the NAHP, National Association for Health Professionals) ARMA - American Registry of Medical Assistants OR One of the following: Graduate of an Accredited School of Nursing, LPN or LVN at the time of hire (verified through state license) EMT- Emergency Medical Technician (verified through state certification and/or the National Registry of Emergency Medical Technicians) Paramedic (verified through state certification and/or and the National Registry of Emergency Medical Technicians)

Required Licenses/Certifications

CPOE certificationrequiredwithin 2 weeks of hire if MA certification is not obtained at hire Basic Life Support (BLS) required at the time of hire obtained through the American Red Cross (ARC) or American Heart Association (AHA)

Essential Functions

Conduct patient registration, which includes securing required paperwork and insurance documentation, and verification of insurance and patient eligibility. Process co-pays and schedule patient appointments for assigned centers. Coordinate provider referrals to assigned Specialist. Answer patient questions regarding their care and keep them informed of their status. Inform technical staff of patient flow. Prepare patients for examination, which includes conducting interviews to verify patient information, record medical history; confirm purpose of visit Perform preliminary physical tests (blood pressure, weight, temperature, etc.) for vital signs and elevate critical cases to the provider as needed. Conduct point of care testing as needed (i.e., flu, strep, urinalysis, ECG, HCG); and provide patient information to providers. Responsible for stocking supplies and maintenance of exam rooms, front desk, and reception area; ensure providers have medical supplies needed. Responsible for completing order sheets to maintain supply inventory levels; regularly checking expiration dates on supplies. Responsible for maintenance of medical records and scanning charts to patient files. Answer phone calls, collect and sort daily incoming and outgoing postal correspondence Ensure reception is well maintained Conduct courtesy callbacks for patient follow-up. Perform opening and closing duties, which include cashing out, end‑of‑day communication, and securing the building. Follow operating instructions to perform and document daily controls and calibration of equipment; maintain Quality Assurance/Quality Control logs for equipment troubleshoot breakdowns, perform preventive maintenance, and submit repair tickets as needed. All other duties as assigned.
