Austin Regional Clinic is hiring a Staff Medical Assistant in Austin, TX. The role supports patient flow, medications, and clinical workflows in a busy practice.

Responsibilities include patient rooming, vital signs, medication administration under physician direction, and adherence to clinic protocols. Eligible candidates will have a high school diploma and Medical Assistant certification (or equivalent) and a current CPR certification.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Medical Assistant experience, or CNA/EMT/PCT with direct patient care, or graduate of a medical assistant program.
  • Medical Assistant certification preferred.
  • BLS CPR required within 60 days of hire.

Responsibilities

  • Report and document status, care rendered, and provider communications.
  • Refill medications following ARC protocols.
  • Room patients, measure vitals, and prepare for provider exam.
  • Follow clinic protocols from nursing leadership.
  • Perform EKGs, audiograms, tympanograms, spirometry, and visual screenings.
  • Monitor and stock medical/office supplies; order as needed.
  • Review provider refill in basket and daily medication requests.
  • Review EPIC triage call in basket for callbacks.
  • Clean patient rooms and proper handling of laundry.
  • Stock laundry supplies daily; assist with sigmoidoscopy and cardiac stress setup.
  • Maintain equipment (autoclaves, sterilizers, etc.).
  • Adhere to OSHA, HIPAA, and Code of Conduct; regular attendance.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Accurately and completely reports and documents status, care rendered, response to care, provider orders, contacts with patient and/or other healthcare providers.
  • Refills medication following the ARC refill protocols.
  • Accurately and completely rooms patients, takes and documents vital signs, prepares patients for provider exam
  • Follows clinic protocols and directions given by nursing team leader or supervisor.
  • Performs diagnostic testing including but not limited to EKGs, audiograms, tympanograms, spirometry, and visual screenings with reporting and documentation as appropriate.
  • Monitors inventory of medical and/or office supplies and equipment, ensuring units and/or rooms are properly stocked and supplies are current and not expired. Orders supplies as needed.
  • Responsible for reviewing both Provider refill in basket and assisting with daily medication refill request using the ARC refill protocol.
  • Responsible for reviewing EPIC triage call in basket for any callbacks.
  • Cleans patient rooms as needed, including proper handling of dirty laundry.
  • Ensures laundry cart is stocked with fresh linens on a daily basis.
  • May assist providers with sigmoidoscopy exams and cardiac stress testing by setting up equipment, assisting with patient preparation, and cleaning and storing equipment after exam. Reports and documents appropriately.
  • Maintains equipment (autoclaves, sterilizes, washes speculums, checks expiration dates, etc.)
  • Adheres to all company policies, including but not limited to, OSHA, HIPAA, compliance and Code of Conduct.
  • Regular and dependable attendance.
  • Follows the core competencies set forth by the Company, which are available for review on CMSweb.
  • Works holiday shift(s) as required by Company policy.
  • Staff Medical Assistant:
    • Provides patients with educational materials as directed.
    • Administers medication under physician’s direction and within the scope of practice as demonstrated by completion of training and testing.
    • Responsible for reviewing result note in basket and calling /informing patients of normal lab results.
    • Reviews provider instructions regarding abnormal results.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Staff Medical Assistant:

Required:

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Required to meet one of the following:
    • Medical Assistant experience, or
    • CNA/EMT/PCT(or other comparable experience) providing direct patient care, beyond Activities of Daily Living, including experience taking manual vitals and giving medications and/or injections, or
    • Graduate of a medical assistant program.

Preferred:

  • Six (6) months or more experience as a Medical Assistant.

Certificate/License

Work Schedule: Monday - Friday - 8:00am-5:00pm
