Job summary

Elliot Health System is seeking Medical Assistants for the Pulmonary and Sleep Medicine practice in Manchester, NH. The MA role involves patient preparation, vital signs, and supporting tests and procedures in a collaborative setting.

Opportunities exist for MA I and MA II with related education/experience progression; BLS within 90 days and CMA/RMA/CCMA preferred. Schedule is Monday–Friday, 8:00am–4:30pm. Competitive benefits offered.

Qualifications

  • Education: HS Diploma or GED required and one of the listed programs.
  • Experience: 1 year of relevant healthcare experience;2 years preferred.
  • Certification/Licensure: BLS within 90 days; CMA/RMA/CCMA preferred.
  • MA II requires CMA/RMA/CCMA and 3 years’ MA experience.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare patients for examinations and record vital signs and tests.
  • Room patients for provider visits and document revisits and reports.
  • Obtain measurements including vital signs, height, weight, and peak flow.
  • Conduct hearing, vision, respiratory and ECG testing.
  • Perform screening and collect specimens; document results.
  • Perform point-of-care testing and venipuncture as needed.
  • Administer medications and immunizations; process refills per guidelines.
  • Handle prior authorizations and manage supply areas.

Education

HS Diploma or GED
Graduate from accredited MA Program
Graduate from MA Training Program with externship
1 year healthcare experience with formal training (LNA, EMT, Combat Medic)
1 year prior experience as a Medical Assistant
At least 3 years’ experience as a Medical Assistant (MA II)

Job description

Position Summary: M - F 8 am - 4:30 pm

The Pulmonary and Sleep Medicine practice cares for patients with a variety of Pulmonary and Sleep conditions such as Asthma, COPD, Emphysema and Obstructive Sleep Apnea. Medical Assistant responsibilities in this practice include preparing patients for examination, vital signs, prior authorizations, and workflow support of overnight pulse oximetry and home sleep testing. The ideal MA applicant will have the opportunity to work in a supportive, team oriented, specialty practice environment while gaining knowledge in Pulmonary and Sleep Medicine.

Key Responsibilities
  • Performs visit chart preparation activities based on the daily scheduled appointments including diagnostic test results, emergency/urgent care reports, discharge summaries and consult/PCP reports are located in the medical record and accessible to the provider.
  • Performs rooming activities for provider visits according to the documented rooming criteria including chief complaint, allergies, vital signs, medication list review, tobacco history, LMP, health maintenance overrides and documentation in a timely and accurate manner.
  • Obtains and documents age and/or condition-specific measurements accurately including vital signs, height, weight, head circumference, peak flow, and pulse oximetry.
  • Conducts and documents hearing, vision, respiratory and ECG testing.
  • Performs and documents specific screening based on condition/need including depression and asthma.
  • Obtains, documents and processes specimens using the appropriate collection process and equipment.
  • Performs and documents point of care testing accurately.
  • Performs venipuncture procedures (as needed) and processes specimens as outlined in policies and procedures.
  • Administers medications and immunizations including oral, nasal, injectable, rectal and topical routes as appropriate.
  • Processes medication prescription refills per guidelines using telephonic, electronic or print methods.
  • Handles prior authorization processes for medications and/or procedures and documents appropriately.
  • Manages clinical supplies and medication sample areas to ensure that stock is current, stored appropriately, labeled and par levels maintained.
Education/Experience/Licensure
MA I

Education: HS Diploma or GED required and one of the following:

  • Graduate from an accredited MA Program.
  • Graduate from an MA Training Program with externship.
  • 1 year of relevant healthcare experience with formal training (LNA, EMT, Combat Medic).
  • 1 year prior experience as a Medical Assistant.

Experience: 1 year of relevant healthcare exp. (can include externship), 1 -2 years exp. in a clinical ambulatory care setting preferred.

Certification/Licensure: Must possess BLS authorization upon 90 days of employment and maintain during employment. CMA, RMA or CCMA preferred.

MA II

Education: HS Diploma or GED required and one of the following:

  • Graduate from an accredited MA Program.
  • Graduate from an MA Training Program with externship.
  • At least 3 years’ experience as a Medical Assistant.

Experience: At least 3 years’ experience as a Medical Assistant.

Certification/Licensure: CMA, RMA or CCMA required. Must possess BLS authorization upon 90 days of employment and maintain during employment.
