Job summary

Lake Charles Memorial Health System is seeking a Medical Assistant to provide provider support and comprehensive direct care to patients under the direction of the physician. The MA will assist with exams, document patient information, and maintain cleanliness and supplies in exam rooms.

Qualifications include CPR certification, preferred Medical Assistant credential, and computer literacy. Prior experience in a physician practice or ambulatory clinic setting is advantageous.

  • Certification as a Medical Assistant is preferred.
  • CPR certification is required.
  • Experience providing administrative duties and clinical care in a physician practice or ambulatory clinic setting is preferred.
  • Computer literacy is required.

Responsibilities

  • Receives patient from the waiting room and escorts the patient to the exam room.
  • Records intake information in the patient medical record and documents in the chart.
  • Records critical lab values and adverse reactions and reports to the provider.
  • Prepares patient and physician with setup and cleanup of procedures.
  • Observes universal precautions and aseptic technique with patient and equipment.
  • Performs administrative duties as needed.
  • Assists with patient education in conjunction with the provider.
  • Maintains supplies and restocks exam rooms to proper levels.
  • Assists with daily cleaning of exam rooms and clinic areas.

Job description

  • The MA is responsible for providing provider support as applicable, and comprehensive direct care to patients and their families under the direction of the provider. This position supports the Practice Director and Manager in coordinating and leading practice personnel to ensure consistent standards of practice and competencies in the delivery of patient care services. The position will perform duties within the scope of practice, ensuring consistency with Memorial Medical Group policies and procedures, standards of care, approved protocols, standing orders and guidelines.
Description Of Position
  • The MA is responsible for providing provider support as applicable, and comprehensive direct care to patients and their families under the direction of the provider. This position supports the Practice Director and Manager in coordinating and leading practice personnel to ensure consistent standards of practice and competencies in the delivery of patient care services. The position will perform duties within the scope of practice, ensuring consistency with Memorial Medical Group policies and procedures, standards of care, approved protocols, standing orders and guidelines.
SUPERVISION:

Reports directly to Nurse Manager and/or Charge Nurse

Responsibilities And Duties
  • Receives patient from the waiting room and escorts the patient to the exam room.
  • Obtains and records all in-take information in the patient medical record. Records any other department specific information in patient chart. Adheres to all government documentation requirements.
  • Records patient critical lab values, adverse reactions and pertinent information and promptly reports to the provider.
  • Prepares patient and provider with set up and cleanup of procedures.
  • Observes universal precautions and aseptic techniques with patient and the proper use of medical instruments and equipment.
  • Able to perform administrative duties.
  • Assists with patient education in conjunction with the provider.
  • Inventories exam rooms and determines supply needs. Restocks rooms to par level. Conveys needs to the appropriate personnel.
  • Assist with the daily cleaning of exam rooms and clinic station areas. Assesses maintenance needs.
  • Performs other job duties as assigned.

Education And Work Experience
  • Graduate of an accredited medial assistant program, preferred.
  • Certification as a Medical Assistant, preferred.
  • CPR certification, required.
  • Experience providing administrative duties and clinical care in a physician practice or ambulatory clinic setting, preferred.
  • Computer literacy, required.
  • Broad range of administrative and technical skills in the context of the healthcare environment.
  • Impacts activities in other work areas on a frequent basis and contributes in multiple work areas.

  • Provides feedback to assist with decision making process.
  • Documents detailed information in patient chart.

Physical Demands/Work Environment
  • Work requires a variety of physical activities, including moving about within and outside of all hospital properties for long periods of time.
  • Must be able to respond quickly and effectively to emergency and non-emergent situations.
  • May be required to assist in controlling disorderly conduct or combative patients.
  • Must be able to exchange accurate information with patient, family, peers and medical personnel.
