Job Summary

PRN Medical Assistant to support a growing Brunswick office. Assist physicians with medical procedures in office. Responsible for phlebotomy, laboratory testing, quality control, instrument troubleshooting, and maintenance.

Hours of Operation

Monday–Thursday, 8 a.m.–5 p.m. and Friday, 8 a.m.–12:30 p.m.

Key Performance Areas
  • Perform proper quality control procedures before patient testing.
  • Conduct laboratory blood work and follow specimen handling protocols.
  • Prepare blood or bone marrow slides for evaluation.
  • Send outside labs as directed by patient’s insurance plan.
  • Maintain test report and quality control logs, equipment records, and checklists per regulatory agencies.
  • Follow the AON patient I.D. policy and procedure with every patient encounter.
  • Obtain vital signs, height, weight, pain level, and PHQ‑9 depression screening; document in the Onco/EMR system.
  • Place patient in exam room and prepare for physician in a timely manner.
  • Receive lab reports via telephone, lab system, or fax; document in the patient’s chart or Onco/EMR.
  • Assist physicians with procedures such as bone marrow biopsies, fine‑needle aspirates, paracentesis, and pelvic exams.
  • Schedule outside testing, referrals to other physicians, and hospital admissions as ordered.
  • Complete thorough documentation in the medical record chart; prepare encounter forms for billing and file EMR updates.
  • Show physician critical blood counts according to guidelines.
  • Obtain and prepare all pertinent scans and CDs for physician review.
  • Maintain adequate inventory of supplies; place orders with purchasing as needed.
  • Initiate troubleshooting for instrument malfunctions; contact central lab or service company if required.
  • Perform EKG testing when applicable.
  • Ensure laboratory compliance with state and federal regulatory agencies; complete required compliance testing.
  • Complete required CEUs annually to meet C.O.L.A. requirements.
  • Observe safety guidelines and maintain cleanliness of the laboratory and equipment.
  • Comply with all federal, state, and AON policies and procedures, including IT and disaster recovery.
  • Maintain confidentiality of all patient information.
  • Assist in training new employees on related job duties.
  • Work at any AON location and perform overtime as needed.

Qualifications and Requirements
Education
  • High School diploma or GED.
Certifications / Licenses
  • State certification as required by the state of employment.
  • BLS certification required.

Previous Experience
  • One year experience as a medical assistant in a clinic or physician’s office, including venipuncture.
