Position Summary

The Medical Assistant provides clinical and administrative support to medical and psychiatric providers and patients in an outpatient setting. Responsibilities include preparing for patient visits, performing clinical tasks, rooming patients, documenting vital signs, point‑of‑care testing, assisting in minor procedures, handling patient phone calls, obtaining prior authorizations, and maintaining patient care supplies. The MA works with an integrated multidisciplinary team and may serve primary care, psychiatric providers, or both.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED
• Minimum 1 year of experience as a Medical Assistant or in a clinical support role in a medical or behavioral health setting
• Preferred: 3 years as a Medical Assistant and certification as a Certified Medical Assistant (CMA)

Salary

Starting pay is $21.50 per hour (Base $19.00 + $2.50 Locale Differential) and ranges up to $24.64 per hour, factoring in preferred experience and education.

Physical Demands

Employees must occasionally lift or move 15–50 pounds, walk, sit, stand, or kneel frequently, and occasionally climb, balance, or stoop. Must be able to sit for extended periods at a computer and travel between AHS locations. Possible exposure to communicable disease. Noise level is usually moderate. Required Skills

• Knowledge of medical terminology, diagnostic classifications, and medications
• Complete scheduling and visit preparation to anticipate provider and patient needs
• Room patients and gather clinical information (medication list, allergies, concerns)
• Accurately measure and record vital signs (BP, HR, RR, height, weight)
• Communicate with patients in person and by phone with high customer service, documenting interactions in the EHR
• Assist providers with schedule management, patient flow, and room turnover; communicate delays to providers and patients/families
• Accurately complete and record point‑of‑care testing (e.g., Urine Drug Screen, A1C test)
• Administer medications and immunizations as instructed by the RN or medical provider
• Clean and disinfect exam tables, counters, equipment, and devices per infection control guidelines
• Obtain prior authorizations for medications, supplies, tests, or referrals as needed
• Assemble equipment and supplies, prepare trays for minor procedures
• Communicate diagnostic and laboratory results to patients as instructed by the provider
• Provide patient education as instructed by the RN or medical provider
• Facilitate tele‑health visits, including patients visiting from home or off‑site providers
