Job summary

Ochsner Health is seeking a medical assistant to deliver individualized patient care under supervision, assisting in the delivery of health care services to patients of varied backgrounds and ages.

The role emphasizes excellent patient service, accurate documentation, and effective communication in person and by phone. Education includes a high school diploma and preferred formal medical assistant training; BLS certification is required.

Qualifications

Responsibilities

• Supports the patient and provider throughout the patient visit.
• Ensures the patient and provider are prepared for the visit.
• Ensures the patient’s questions are answered prior to leaving; prepares room for next appointment.
• Provides excellent patient service through effective communication both over the phone and in person.
• Completes appropriate documentation including patient registration if necessary.
• Maintains required clinical knowledge, technical skills, training and credentials through personal professional development.
• Handles other duties as assigned effectively and efficiently.
• Meets the procedures of the Department of Transportation Workplace Drug and Alcohol Testing Programs, if working in an occupational health clinic.
• Adapts behavior to the specific patient population, including respect for privacy and communication style.
• Performs other duties as assigned

Education

The risk level of exposure may increase depending on the essential job duties of the role.
