Job summary

Universal Health Services' Northern Nevada Medical Group in Reno is hiring a full-time Medical Assistant to support physicians with exams and treatment. The role involves interviewing patients, measuring vital signs, venipuncture and injections, and documenting in the Electronic Medical Record under IPM guidelines.

You may assist front desk duties when needed. You will help prepare treatment rooms, ensure infection prevention standards, and participate in referrals and scheduling.

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or equivalent is required.
  • Completion of an accredited Medical Assistant program.
  • Current BLS/CPR certification required.
  • Medical Assistant certificate or one year experience.
  • Familiarity with medical terminology.
  • Experience with patient check-in/check-out per clinic protocol.
  • End-of-day cash balancing and charge reconciliation knowledge.

Responsibilities

  • Participates in decision-making and process improvement.
  • Keeps patient rooms and nursing station stocked and clean; manages expiration dates and equipment cleaning per infection standards.
  • Distribute referrals to physicians and insurance; document in patient charts.
  • Pre-authorize prescriptions and clinical tests as necessary.
  • Phone/fax patient prescriptions as necessary.
  • Schedule imaging studies and cardiology/radiology testing and complete paperwork.
  • Triages patients, checks vitals, administers injections and venipunctures, and prepares patients for exams.

This Medical Assistant opportunity is full-time, offers full benefits and a convenient day shift schedule. This position is responsible for performing a wide variety of patient care duties which include assisting in examination and treatment of patients under the direction of a physician. Interviewing patients measures vital signs (i.e., pulse rate, temperature, blood pressure, weight, and height), venipuncture and procedures as directed by the physician within the scope of practice in the State. Documentation is recorded in the Electronic Medical Record in accordance with IPM guideline. Prepares treatment rooms for examination of patients. Assists in covering the front desk as required.

Job Duties/Responsibilities:
  • Participates in decision-making and process improvement.
  • Ensures that patient rooms, nursing station and storage rooms are kept stocked, clean, manages product expiration date; ensures all equipment is kept clean according to infection prevention standards.
  • Distribute referrals as necessary to physicians and insurance companies; keep proper documentation of referral requests/responses in patient charts.
  • Pre-authorize prescriptions and clinical tests (CT, MRI, Ultrasound, etc.) as necessary.
  • Phone/faxing patient prescriptions as necessary
  • Schedules Diagnostic Imaging studies BMDs dietician appointments, cardiology testing, and radiology testing for patients, and completes all appropriate paperwork.
  • Accurately performs clinical duties to include triaging patients, checking patient vitals, administering injections and venipunctures, and prepping patients for physician exam.
