Job summary

Upperline Health Inc in Anderson, IN is seeking a Primary Care Medical Assistant who delivers high-quality, patient-centered care in a value-based practice. You will room patients, document vitals and medical history, support the Upperline Plus provider, and coordinate care across the clinic and with external resources to improve outcomes and patient experience.

Ideal candidates are organized, compassionate, detail-oriented, with EMR experience (AthenaHealth) and strong communication skills

Qualifications

  • Certified MA or minimum of 2 years’ experience in a medical primary care setting.
  • Experience in a primary care/outpatient clinic setting is strongly preferred.
  • Certified MA or phlebotomy certification strongly preferred.
  • Demonstrates strong knowledge of medical terminology, disease processes, and basic pharmacology.

Responsibilities

  • Room patients, obtain and document vital signs, medical history, and chief complaints.
  • Assist NP with health assessments and in-clinic visits for Upperline Plus patients.
  • Facilitate and support virtual provider encounters from the clinic setting.
  • Accurately document clinical information in the EHR.
  • Perform medication reconciliation and identify discrepancies for provider review.
  • Coordinate care and outreach to improve patient outcomes and experience.
  • Support workflow optimization and patient flow in the clinic.

About the Primary Care Medical Assistant Role

The MA also provides direct support to theUpperline PlusPrimary CareProviderto ensure smooth clinical operations and effectiveteam-basedcare.

This position will be on-site in our Anderson, IN office and requires travel to our Noblesville, IN office.

Primary Care Medical Assistant Responsibilities
  • Room patients, obtain and document vital signs, medical history, and chief complaints
  • Assist NP withhealth assessmentsand inclinicvisits withUpperline Plus patients being seen inourclinics
  • Facilitate andsupport virtual provider encountersfrom the clinic setting
  • Accurately document clinical information in the electronic health record (EHR)
  • Performs thorough andaccuratemedication reconciliation at each patient encounter by reviewing, verifying, andconsolidatingall prescription medications, over-the-counter drugs, supplements, and herbal products
  • Identifymedicationdiscrepancies or potential concerns; andensuresthe reconciled medication list is complete, current, and accurately documented in the electronic medical record for provider review
  • Telephonicoutreach and engagement with Upperline Plus patients to coordinate ongoingpreventative care
  • Manage in-basket messages, prescription refill requests, and prior authorizations
  • Care coordination activities as assigned including, but not limited to, medical records requests, order management, appointment scheduling,managing patient care referrals,DMEreferrals, etc.
  • Identifyingcommunity resources andassistingUpperline’s patients and families in accessing those resources
  • Prepare andmaintainequipment and supplies commonly used by theUpperline Plus provider
  • Collaborate with providers, nurses, care managers, and social services to address medical and social determinants of health
  • Serve as theUpperline Plus provider’sprimary point of support for workflow optimization and patient flow management
  • Identifybarriers to care (transportation, medication access, health literacy) and elevate appropriately
  • Participation in interdisciplinary team meetings& daily clinic team huddles
  • Perform clinical tasks within scope (injections, phlebotomy, point-of-care testing)
  • Other related duties as deemed necessary by Upperline Health
Primary Care Medical Assistant Qualifications
  • Certified MA orminimum of2 years’ experience inamedical primary caresetting
  • Experience in aprimary care /outpatientclinicsettingis strongly preferred
  • Certified MA or phlebotomy certification strongly preferred
  • Demonstrates strong knowledge of medical terminology, disease processes, and basic pharmacology, including medication classifications, common indications, dosing ranges, and potential side effects
  • Ability to accurately interpret provider documentation, diagnostic orders, and treatment plans
  • Clinical care coordinationorcare management experience is ideal
  • Previousexperienceassistingor providing care to theadult – geriatric patient population ispreferred
  • Prior wound care and foot care experienceis a plus
  • Bilingual English/Spanish ishelpful
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a team-based care model
  • Previousexperience working in an EMR system–ideally,AthenaHealth
  • Proficiencyusing Word, Excel and other Microsoft Office products is necessary
  • Must have reliabletransportation, valid driver’s license and minimum staterequiredliability auto insurance
  • Extremely strongcustomer-service orientation andwork ethic
  • Comfort managing multiple tasks and prioritizing in a fast-paced environment
  • Empathy, professionalism, and cultural sensitivity
  • Self-starter with an entrepreneurial spirit anddemonstratedproblem solving skills

Compensation

Compensation is commensurate to compensation for similar positions in the region and based on prior training and experience.
