Job summary

UCLA Health's Montecito Clinic seeks a Medical Assistant to support patient care under physician supervision in the Primary & Specialty Care setting. You will assist with examinations, vital signs, injections, medications, and care coordination in a busy ambulatory environment.

Qualified candidates have a current MA certification or diploma, CPR/BLS, and at least six months of experience. A strong focus on safety, documentation, and travel between UCLA Health sites is required.

Qualifications

• Current Medical Assistant Certification or diploma (required).
• Minimum of six months of working experience as a Medical Assistant in a healthcare setting (required).
• Active CPR certification/BLS from the American Heart Association or American Red Cross (required).
• Knowledge of instruments and supplies to perform physical examinations and procedures (required).
• Ability to take vital signs, injections, administer medications, and obtain drug refills (required).
• Knowledge of symptomatology of common and/or life-threatening medical problems and abnormal lab values (required).
• Ability to use computerized patient care systems and Windows OS (required).
• Flexibility to travel to multiple UCLA Health sites and work a variable schedule (required).
• Documentation of completing a medical assistant program from an accredited school or documented national certification (required).
• Completion of 10 clock hours of injections/skin tests and venipuncture training, etc., under supervision within 6 months (required).

Responsibilities

• Assist physician, nurse practitioner, and ambulatory care team under supervision.
• Participate in patient care in ambulatory setting; recognize normal/abnormal signs and symptoms.
• Provide basic administrative, clerical, and technical support as conditions permit.

As a Medical Assistant in Primary & Specialty Care at our Montecito Clinic, you will have the opportunity to work as assistive personnel who work under the direct supervision of a physician, nurse practitioner. Medical Assistants participate in the patient care in the ambulatory setting, recognizing normal and abnormal signs and symptoms and provide support during life threatening emergencies. As a Medical Assistant you may perform basic administrative, clerical and technical supportive services when conditions regarding supervision, training, specific authorization, and records are met.

Pay Range: $31.24 - $41.22 hourly

Qualifications

Required:

• Skill and knowledge to maintain current Medical Assistant Certification or diploma
• Minimum of six months of working experience as a Medical Assistant in a healthcare setting
• Possession of active CPR certification/BLS from the American Heart Association or American Red Cross
• Knowledge of all instruments and supplies to perform physical examinations and procedures
• Ability to take vital signs, perform injections, administer medications, and obtain drug refills
• Knowledge of symptomatology of common and/or life threatening medical problems and assessing abnormal laboratory values
• Ability to use a computerized patient care systems and proficiency with the Windows operating system
• Ability to be highly flexible, travel to multiple work sites within UCLA Health community based practices and work a variable schedule
• A medical assistant diploma or certificate as follows:
• 1. Documentation of completing of a medical assistant program from a medical assistant school that is accredited by ASSCS, ACCET, CAAHEP or ABHES or
• 2. Documentation of national certification for medical assistant issued by CMA, NCCT or AMT or
• 3. Documentation of completing a medical assistant program and demonstrated completion of no less than 10 clock hours of training in administering injections and performing skin tests; 10 hours of training in venipuncture and skin puncture for the purpose of withdrawing blood; at least 10 of each intramuscular, subcutaneous, and intradermal injections and 10 skin tests, and/or at least 10 venipuncture and 10 skin punctures; 10 hours of training in administering medical by inhalation. Each of the aforementioned 10 hours of training and skill assessments must be completed in conjunction with the UCLA Health Ambulatory Nursing Medical Assistant Bridge Program and under appropriate supervision and no later than within 6 months of hire.

Highly desired:

• Possession of Phlebotomy Certification
