Preferred Primary Care Physicians is recruiting for a Full Time Medical Assistant/Phlebotomist in the Green Tree area of Pittsburgh, PA. The role combines front and back office tasks with phlebotomy skills, including rooming patients, taking vitals, and injections.

Ideal candidates have MA education and may have phlebotomy certification; experience in patient care and clinical procedures is preferred. Daylight schedule with one late day per week.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required; MA program graduate preferred.
• Six months MA experience in a medical practice is preferred; open to new graduates.

Responsibilities

• Escort patients to exam/treatment rooms and record vitals and basic data.
• Administer subcutaneous and intramuscular injections as directed.
• Answer and return patient calls; coordinate with pharmacies for prescriptions.
• Obtain necessary patient records, lab data, and diagnostics for clinician review.
• Draw blood specimens as needed per safety protocols.
• Assist with exams, procedures, and scheduling of tests or follow-ups.
• Prepare, stock, and maintain exam rooms; manage supplies.
• Handle administrative duties such as typing, faxing, and reception tasks.
• Report patient rescheduling or no-shows to the physician or office manager.
• Educate patients with delegated educational activities.

Preferred Primary Care Physicians is currently recruiting for a Full Time Medical Assistant/Phlebotomist for our practice located in the Green Tree area of Pittsburgh, located at: 300 Fleet St, Pittsburgh, PA 15220. The ideal candidate will have both front and back office experience as well as Phlebotomy skills. Any candidates with a Phlebotomy Certification MUST also have experience in rooming patients, taking vitals, and injections. This is a full-time, non-exempt, hourly position. This position has a great daylight schedule with one night per week a late day until 8pm.

General Purpose of the Medical Assistant/Phlebotomist Position:

Responsible for assisting physicians and nurses with patient care, clerical, environmental and organizational tasks. May assist with appointment scheduling and electronic chart management.

Medical Assistant/Phlebotomist Essential Functions:

• Escorts patients to and from exam or treatment rooms as appropriate. Records all patient data prior to the physician or nurse seeing the patient. This includes vital signs, height and weight, allergies, medications, chief complaint, reason for visit, etc.
• Administers subcutaneous and intramuscular injections as directed by the physician.
• Answers and returns patient phone calls as directed. Is responsible for contacting pharmacies for prescriptions or may answer patient telephone calls for referrals. May handle other patient telephone calls as directed by the physician, nurse or Office Manager.
• Obtains all necessary patient record information, lab data, diagnostics, consults, etc. as required by the physician or nurse for assessment of the patient's medical status.
• Obtains blood specimens from peripheral sites as needed in accordance with OSHA and universal safety precautions
• Assists with exams and procedures as requested.
• Assists with scheduling tests, procedures or appointments to follow-up on test results
• Prepares, maintains and stocks exam and treatment rooms. Orders supplies as needed.
• Obtains new patient information and any test results.
• Assists with administrative duties such as typing, faxing, reception duties, etc.
• Processes instruments and equipment as needed.
• Informs physician of patient reschedule or no-shows.
• Assists with delegated patient education activities including but not limited to distributing educational literature, etc.
• Maintains the strictest confidentiality.
• Performs other duties as assigned by the physician, nurse or office manager.

Education:

A high school diploma or GED is required. Graduate from an accredited school of medical assistant. Six (6) months of medical assistant experience in a medical practice setting preferred, however open to new graduate applicants.
