Job summary

Optum NY in Plainview, NY is seeking a Medical Assistant - Pediatric Ophthalmology to join our team.

The Medical Assistant supports clinicians in a busy pediatric ophthalmology clinic, gathering patient histories, vitals, and preparing patients for exams while maintaining accurate electronic medical records.

Experience in a medical office setting is required; EPIC EMR experience is preferred. A $3,000 sign-on bonus is offered for external candidates.

Qualifications

• Ability to work until 8pm, two nights a week plus two Saturdays a month.

Responsibilities

• Obtains patient histories and vital signs and records accurately in the electronic medical record.

• Retrieves laboratory and radiology test results and instructs patients regarding medications and treatment per clinician's instructions.
• Stocks supplies and prepares exam rooms and instruments for examinations, testing, or minor surgeries.
• Performs heavy phone duties, responds to calls and schedules appointments.
• Obtains prior authorizations as necessary.
• Assists with other specialties within the suite as necessary.
• Performs other duties as assigned.

The Medical Assistant works to assist clinicians in providing health care at clinic locations. A Medical Assistant serves the patient and all members of the health care team by gathering and maintaining the necessary medical information in a cheerful, friendly, personable manner. This role provides quality patient care and helps to establish rapport between the clinician and patient.

37.5 hours per week

• Monday - Thursday shifts 8am-4pm, 9am-5pm, 10am-6pm, and 12pm-8pm. Two nights a week
• Friday and Saturday shifts 8am-4pm. Two Saturdays a month

Primary Responsibilities

• Obtains patient histories and vital signs and records accurately in the electronic medical record
• Prepares patients for examination and treatment and documents chief complaints
• Assists in other specialties as necessary
• Retrieves laboratory and radiology test results and instructs patients regarding medications and treatment per clinician's instructions
• Stocks supplies and prepares exam rooms and instruments for examinations, testing, or minor surgeries
• Potential for heavy phone usage. Responds to incoming phone calls and refers if necessary. Calls patients as necessary to follow up and/or schedule appointments
• Obtain prior authorizations as necessary
• Assist with other specialties within the suite as necessary
• Performs other duties as assigned

Years of post-high school education can be substituted/is equivalent to years of experience.

Required Qualifications

• Experience in a medical office setting
• Experience with PC and Microsoft office

Preferred Qualifications

• Medical Assistant certification
• 1+ years of experience working as a Medical Assistant performing front and clinical back-office duties
• Experience working with EPIC EMR software

Pay is based on several factors including but not limited to local labor markets, education, work experience, certifications, etc. In addition to your salary, we offer benefits such as, a comprehensive benefits package, incentive and recognition programs, equity stock purchase and 401k contribution (all benefits are subject to eligibility requirements).
