Job summary

SouthStar is seeking a Medical Assistant to join a patient-focused team in Lafayette, LA. You will prepare patients, assist with examinations, manage room setups, and support clinical workflows under providers’ orders.

Responsibilities include specimen collection, basic lab testing, EMR documentation, patient education, and coordination of follow-up appointments. A High School diploma and MA certification (and BLS) are required; 1 year experience preferred.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent is required.
• Current Certification as a Medical Assistant is preferred; BLS certification is required.

Responsibilities

• Prepare patients for examination, record vital signs and medical history; provide treatments as applicable.
• Prepare exam/treatment rooms; set up, sterilize, and maintain supplies and equipment.
• Administer injections, change dressings, and assist with wound management under provider orders.
• Collect blood, tissues and other specimens; perform in-house tests and log results.
• Document patient care and procedures in EMR; schedule tests and follow-ups.
• Instruct patients and families on treatment, medications and follow-up care.
• Collaborate with cross-functional team to ensure seamless patient care.
• Perform opening/closing clinic duties and patient callbacks.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

Medical Assistant certification (RMA/AAMA/NCCT/CMAC/AMCA)

BLS certification
