Job summary

JWCH Institute, Inc in Pasadena, CA is hiring a Medical Assistant to support providers in an ambulatory clinic. You will perform routine patient care, assist with examinations, collect vital signs, draw blood, administer immunizations, and document in the EHR.

A High School diploma and MA certificate are required; BLS, venipuncture training, and English/Spanish bilingual skills are preferred.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED required.
• Graduation from an accredited Medical Assistant program with MA certificate.
• Verification of appropriate hours in approved Medical Assistant course to perform venipuncture.
• Current BLS certificate from the American Heart Association.
• Two years' experience in an ambulatory clinic preferred.
• Bilingual English/Spanish preferred.
• Valid CA Driver's License and ability to travel to multiple sites.

Responsibilities

• Performs routine (noninvasive) patient care under licensed personnel.
• Assists healthcare providers with patient examinations, procedures, and treatments.
• Escorts patients to examination rooms and obtains vital signs, medical history, and chief complaints.
• Collects and records patient data including height, weight, BMI, temperature, pulse, respiration, BP, pulse oximetry, and peak flow.
• Performs lab tests including finger sticks after training and competency verification.
• Performs venipuncture and PPD skin test placement; documents results.
• Administers immunizations and medications per provider orders after verification.
• Maintains examination rooms and stocking of supplies; adheres to infection control policies.
• Provides patient education and documents in EHR; performs clerical duties as needed.
• Maintains patient confidentiality and participates in safety trainings.
• Participates in safety/compliance trainings and team meetings.

Job description

Position Description

• Performs routine (noninvasive) patient care functions as prescribed by licensed healthcare personnel, following established clinic policies and procedures within the defined scope of education, training, and responsibilities.
• Assists healthcare providers with patient examinations, procedures, and treatments.
• Escorts patients to examination rooms and obtains vital signs, medical history, and chief complaints.
• Collects and records patient data, including height, weight, BMI, temperature, pulse, respiration rate, blood pressure, pulse oximetry, and peak flow measurements, according to established policies and procedures.
• Performs lab tests, including finger sticks, after appropriate training and verification of competency.
• Performs venipuncture and PPD skin test placement; documents result and reports findings to the provider or Registered Nurse.
• Administers immunizations and medications per provider orders after verification by a licensed healthcare professional.
• Applies and removes bandages and dressings.
• Prepares and maintains examination rooms, ensuring cleanliness and adequate stocking of supplies.
• Applies principles of aseptic technique and adheres to infection control policies and procedures.
• Provides patient education, including information on medications, treatments, follow-up care, and self-management goals under provider direction.
• Documents patient information, medical history, and treatment plans accurately in electronic health records (EHR) systems.
• Performs routine clerical functions, including answering and routing phone calls and scheduling appointments.
• Accurately files patient labs, X-rays, EKG results, and other documents after provider review and sign-off.
• Maintains patient confidentiality at all times.
• Participates in staff meetings, quality improvement activities, case conferences, and in-service trainings
• Adhere to all organizational safety policies, procedures, and regulatory requirements to ensure a safe environment for patients, staff, and visitors.
• Participate in required safety and compliance trainings and apply learned practices in daily work activities.
• Identify, report, and help mitigate unsafe conditions, incidents, or hazards in the workplace.
• Use equipment, tools, and supplies safely and responsibly in accordance with organizational and regulatory standards.
• Participate in JWCH's customer service training called AIDET on an annual basis.
  • Demonstrate an understanding of AIDET (Acknowledge, Introduce, Duration, Explanation, and Thank You) to apply in patient encounters or team discussions.
  • Utilize the AIDET communication framework to communicate with patients and team members in a manner that reduces patient anxiety, increases patient compliance, and improve clinical outcomes.
• Performs other duties and tasks as may be required or assigned.

Requirements

• High School Diploma or GED
• Graduation from an accredited Medical Assistant school with a current MA certificate
• Verification of appropriate hours in approved Medical Assistant course to perform venipuncture
• Current BLS certificate from the American Heart Association
• Two years' experience in an ambulatory clinic preferred
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to interact effectively with patients and healthcare professionals.
• Ability to multitask, prioritize responsibilities, and work efficiently in a fast-paced environment.
• Bilingual (English/Spanish) preferred
• Possess a valid CA Driver's License, clean driving record and able to travel to different sites.
