Job summary

Starling Oncology is seeking a Medical Assistant to provide both administrative and clinical support across multiple clinic locations. You will ensure smooth clinic operations, deliver high-quality patient care, and assist with registration and medical records when needed.

The role requires standing, walking, venipuncture, and basic lab procedures, with mileage reimbursement for travel between clinics. Salary ranges are disclosed in the job posting.

Qualifications

• High school graduate or GED required.
• Completion of a Medical Assistant Diploma program from an accredited institution. Medical Assistant Certificate preferred, not required.
• 2 years of experience working as a Medical Assistant or related role in an outpatient clinic/medical office setting preferred.
• BLS and CPR certification preferred.
• Bilingual in Spanish and English preferred.

Responsibilities

• Maintain documentation in electronic medical record (EMR) systems.
• Prepare patient charts and obtain external medical records as needed.
• Take and record patient vital signs.
• Perform venipunctures and non-intravenous injections.
• Assist with patient examinations, procedures, or treatments.
• Administer medications as directed by the physician.
• Provide chaperone support during examinations when needed.
• Other duties as assigned.

JOB PURPOSE AND SUMMARY

The Medical Assistant is adaptable, dependable, and eager to advance their clinical careers. As an essential member of the patient care team, the Medical Assistant will provide both administrative and clinical support to ensure the smooth operation of the clinic. The MA should deliver high-quality, compassionate patient care, enhancing clinic efficiency, and contributing to an outstanding patient experience. This position also offers the opportunity to be cross trained in patient registration and medical records support, as needed.

Teammates must be willing and able to work assigned shifts at multiple clinic locations and drive between clinics as needed to support patient care and business operations. Mileage will be reimbursed.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

• Responsible for documentation in electronic medical record (EMR) system(s)
• Requesting external medical records and preparing patient charts prior to patient appointments
• Performing and documenting patient vital signs
• Completing review of systems and intake documentation
• Preparing patients for physician care
• Administering basic first aid
• Performing venipunctures and non-intravenous injections
• Performing basic laboratory procedures
• Observing and reporting patients’ signs or symptoms
• Able to serve as a chaperone in patient examinations as needed
• Assisting with patient examinations, procedures, or treatments
• Administering certain medications as directed by the physician
• Other duties as assigned

PHYSICAL WORKING REQUIREMENTS

This position involves prolonged periods of standing and walking, performance of precise tasks like drawing blood and administering medications, and occasionally, lifting of up to 50 pounds. Clear vision and acute hearing are essential for reading charts and monitoring patients. Strong communication skills and attention to detail are critical, especially under stress. Frequent bending, stooping, reaching, and repetitive tasks are also required, along with sensitivity to patient needs and environmental changes.
