Job summary

PeaceHealth in the Cardiology department seeks a Medical Assistant or LPN for a full-time, day shift position. The role supports physicians/providers and works within scope of practice to deliver patient care.

Minimum 1 year experience preferred; WA MA-C or LPN licensure required; BLS at hire; CMA preferred for MA. Hiring bonus may be available.

Qualifications

• Graduate of an accredited Medical Assistant/Medical Office Assistant program, MA Apprenticeship program, or accredited State Board of Nursing LPN program.
• Minimum of 1 year experience preferred: clinical as LPN or MA.
• Required: Washington State MA-C or LPN licensure; BLS for hire date; CMA preferred for MA.

Responsibilities

• Prepare patients for examinations and record history and vital signs.
• Set up exam/treatment rooms and maintain supplies/equipment.
• Administer injections, apply dressings, assist with wound care.
• Prepare materials and sterilize as needed; may transport specimens.
• Assist in scheduling tests and follow-up appointments; maintain patient files.
• Enter data into EMR and handle patient communications with clinicians.

PeaceHealth is seeking a Medical Assistant or LPN - Cardiology for a Full Time, 1.00 FTE, Day position. The salary range for this job opening at PeaceHealth is $25.62 – $34.58 for MA and $28.73 - $43.09 for LPN. The hiring rate is dependent upon several factors, including but not limited to education, training, work experience, terms of any applicable collective bargaining agreement, seniority, etc.

In collaboration with the healthcare team, assists physicians/providers in the delivery of patient care working within the scope of practice for a Medical Assistant.

Essential Functions

• Prepares patients for examination and treatment or anesthesia interview as applicable. Takes and records patient history and vital signs as applicable.
• Prepares exam and/or treatment rooms; selects, setup and maintains medical supplies and equipment for all examinations, procedures and/or anesthesia interview as applicable.
• Gives injections, applies splints and dressings, and facilitates simple wound management under provider orders.
• Prepares and maintains supplies and equipment for treatments, including sterilization.
• May transport specimens.
• May assist in scheduling patients for tests, initial and follow up appointments.
• May maintain patient files, records, and other information including entry of data into electronic medical record.
• May provide phone screening of the patient to appropriate clinical staff and/or physician.
• Collaborates with a variety of personnel and departments to ensure smooth clinic operations.
• Performs other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

• Graduate of an accredited Medical Assistant/Medical Office Assistant program, MA Apprenticeship program, or accredited State Board of Nursing LPN program.

Experience

• Minimum of 1 year Preferred: clinical experience as an LPN or medical office experience as an MA.
• Required: Demonstrated knowledge of and ability to apply age specific principles of growth and development and life stages to meet each patient’s needs

Credentials

• Required: Upon Hire Washington State MA certification (MA-C) or LPN licensure.
• Required: Basic Life Support (BLS) from American Heart Association or American Red Cross at date of hire.
• If an MA, National Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) preferred.

• Demonstrated knowledge of and ability to apply age specific principles of growth and development and life stages to meet each patient’s needs. (Required)

• Proficiency in the use of computer and office equipment. Familiarity with desktop computing tools, multi-line phone systems and insurance billing preferred. (Required)

• Understand the principles of asepsis if applicable. (Required)

Working Conditions

Lifting

• Patient handling no greater than 35 lbs. without the use of assistive equipment and/or devices (NIOSH).
• Fine motor skills to be able to grasp and control medical equipment and perform precise procedures.
• Push/Pull: Frequently up to 45 lbs. force (i.e., WOW, medical carts).
• Perform hands on CPR at least 20 mins using 100-125 lbs. of force (National Assoc. of EMS Physicians and AHA) Frequency should be seldom or occasionally.
• Ability to move around area with frequent sitting.
• Bending/ stooping/ squatting/ reaching/ kneeling frequently.
• Lifting (non-patient) up to 20 lbs. occasionally and 5 lbs. frequently.

Environmental Conditions

• Exposure to biohazard, body fluids and airborne particles.
• Must be able to complete tasks in a noisy environment.

Mental/Visual

• Vision and hearing required within normal limits (glasses, contacts, hearing aids permitted).
• Ability to communicate and exchange accurate information.
