Rochester Regional Health in Rochester, NY is seeking a Medical Assistant in Nephrology to support patient care and ensure smooth daily office operations. You will perform pre-visit planning, obtain vital signs, assist with EKGs and procedures, manage referrals and test orders, provide patient education, and handle administrative duties such as scheduling and insurance verification in a fast-paced clinic.

Qualifications

  • 2 years of pre-hospital care activities or acute/critical care experience preferred
  • Strong customer service, computer, and communication skills
  • Medical Assistant Certification preferred

JOB DETAILS

Job Title: Medical Assistant

Department: Nephrology

Location: Nephrology at Long Pond

WORK HOURS

Hours Per Week: 40

Schedule: 7:00 am to 4:30 pm M-Thurs, 8:00am to 12:00 pm Friday

SUMMARY

As a Medical Assistant, your excellent customer service and communication skills directly affect patient care as well as ensuring day to day office operations run smoothly.

RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Clinical Support Conduct pre-visit planning, close care gaps, and complete health maintenance and registry work.
  • Obtain and document patient vital signs, history, and screenings; promptly report abnormalities.
  • Perform EKGs, phlebotomy, point-of-care testing, and collect/process specimens for external testing.
  • Assist providers and nursing staff during procedures and clinical care activities.
  • Review and pend medication refills and provider orders; assist with prior authorizations and patient forms.
  • Provide patient education and instructions under provider or RN guidance.
  • Maintain exam/treatment rooms and equipment, including stocking, cleaning, calibration, and sterilization preparation.
  • Order and track clinical supplies; assemble information packets and support provider communications.
  • Patient Interaction & Administrative Duties Support patient flow through check-in/check-out, scheduling, referrals, insurance verification, and phone management.
  • Facilitate communication with patients, including mailing provider updates and assisting with MyCare sign-up.
  • Escort patients to ancillary services (e.g., lab, radiology) as needed.
  • Team & Practice Support Manage medical records through abstraction, scanning, and filing of health maintenance and test reports.
  • Compile data from patient records for quality assurance and improvement activities when requested.
  • Process payments and charge entry; manage non-clinical office supplies and distribute mail.
  • Perform other duties as assigned to ensure smooth practice operations.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
  • Associates degree preferred.
  • 2 years of pre-hospital care activities or acute/critical care experience preferred
  • Strong customer service, computer, and communication skills
  • Medical Assistant Certification preferred
  • For Elder ONE Employment: 1 year experience with frail, elderly population preferred
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

Moderate - Clinical - Moderate clinical roles are patient facing roles that require continual movement, including standing, walking, and lifting 20-50 lbs., along with pushing and pulling medical equipment and assisting with patient positioning. Employees perform frequent bending, twisting, and reaching while completing fine motor tasks in busy or confined clinical environments. High sensory acuity is essential for monitoring patient status and responding to alarms or safety concerns. Emotional and cognitive demands are substantial, involving decision-making under pressure, responding to emergencies, and maintaining sustained focus. Environmental exposures include infectious agents, bodily fluids, chemicals, and radiation. TB testing, mask-fit testing, and physical exams are common requirements. For disease specific care programs refer to the program specific requirements of the department for further specifications on experience and educational expectations, including continuing education requirements. Any physical requirements reported by a prospective employee and/or employee’s physician or delegate will be considered for accommodations.

PAY RANGE

$17.85 - $20.00

The listed base pay range is a good faith representation of current potential base pay for a successful full time applicant.

It may be modified in the future and eligible for additional pay components. Pay is determined by factors including experience, relevant qualifications, specialty, internal equity, location, and contracts.
