Job summary

Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta is seeking a Medical Assistant to support the Diagnostics team and clinic operations. The role emphasizes patient care assistance, supply management, and strong customer service in a fast-paced pediatric setting.

You will perform tasks under licensed clinicians, handle vitals, phlebotomy support, and basic clerical duties, with BLS required within 30 days of employment. A high school diploma and medical assistant training are essential.

Qualifications

• 1 year experience in pediatrics, including obtaining vitals, assisting clinical staff with patient care, phlebotomy, and specimen collection procedures
• High school diploma or equivalent
• Completion of a medical assistant training program from an accredited school or emergency medical technician or hospital/physician office-based training as a patient care technician or equivalent
• Basic Life Support (BLS) within 30 days of employment
• Initial competencies as defined by department must be completed within 3 months of employment
• Reflects professional image and excellent communication, organizational, interpersonal, and teamwork skills
• Must be able to pass Basic Windows Skill Assessment at 80% or higher within 30 days of employment

Responsibilities

• Assists in basic delivery of patient care as directed by licensed professionals
• Completes assigned tasks/orders from provider and demonstrates competency during intake
• May demonstrate phlebotomy, simple medication or vaccine administration, spirometry, and radiographs under physician direction
• Maintains organization and communication in prioritizing, delivering, and documenting patient care
• Serves as liaison between patients/families and department staff
• Performs administrative duties to promote efficient operations (opening/closing, phones, waiting room materials, restocking beverages)
• Complies with infection control, safety and OSHA procedures
• Adheres to age-specific care guidelines across Neonate to Adult

Job Description

Assists the Diagnostics Team with administrative tasks and supports the overall functioning of the clinic area. Ideal candidate participates in organizing, ordering and restocking supplies and operations of the clinic. Strong customer services skills needed. Supports all disciplines within department to provide indirect and direct patient care activities. Proactively supports efforts that result in delivery of safe patient care and services and promote a safe environment at Children's Healthcare of Atlanta. Can perform assigned tasks under the delegation of a physician, advanced practice registered nurse, or physician assistant. Experience 1 year of experience in the role of medical assistant, patient care tech or equivalent or have completed Medical Assistant Externship at Children's Healthcare of Atlanta

Job Responsibilities

Assists in basic delivery of patient care as assigned/directed by licensed professional personnel utilizing and integrating age-appropriate standards, knowledge of growth and development, infection control and body substance precautions, patient safety, and body mechanics. Completes assigned tasks/orders from provider. Demonstrates competency during intake process, inclusive of accurate vital signs. May be asked to demonstrate competency in, but not limited to, phlebotomy skills, simple medication or vaccine administration, spirometry testing, and performing radiographs under the direction of a physician. Utilizes proficient organization and communication skills in prioritizing, delivering, and documenting patient care. Performs multiple, concurrent tasks in frequently stressful and fast-paced environment while maintaining strong internal and external customer service standards. Serves as liaison between patients/families and department staff by greeting patients/families, informing families of delays, relaying messages, and offering assistance/other services families may require. Performs administrative duties to promote efficient operations, including participating in office opening/closing procedures, answering phones, maintaining waiting room/patient diversion materials, restocking complimentary beverages, and updating wait-time boards. Understands and complies with infection control, safety, and Occupational Safety and Health Administration procedures and regulations. Demonstrates competencies that incorporate age-specific guidelines, including N = Neonate (less than 30 days), I = Infant (30 days to 1 year), EC = Early Childhood (1-5 years), LC = Late Childhood (5-13 years), A = Adolescent (13-17 years), AD = Adult, and ALL = all ages.
