Qualifications

  • Previous medical assistant and/or direct patient care experience highly preferred.
  • Must be able to perform clinic procedures according to policy and procedure.
  • Compliance with HIPAA and other state and federal regulations.
  • CPR within 30 days of hire; BLS certification recommended or required.
  • Act 31/33/34/73 clearances (renewals) may be required.

Responsibilities

  • Check schedules and organize patient flow.
  • Accompany patients to exam/procedure rooms.
  • Collect patient information and history, take vitals, and perform screenings.
  • Relay instructions to patients and families; document information in records.
  • Prepare patient rooms, set up instruments, and maintain infection control.
  • Assist physicians with procedures and perform basic clinic duties.
  • Verify insurance coverage and schedule appointments.
  • Handle front-office tasks and maintain confidentiality.

Looking to join a team of life changers? UPMC is hiring a full‑time Medical Assistant to support our Magee Women’s Admin team in West Mifflin.

Job title and salary will be based on qualifications and career ladder requirements.

Shift/Hours: Monday‑Friday. Shifts can start anywhere from 6:30 am‑7:30 am and go until 3:00 pm‑4:00 pm. No weekends or holidays. Hours may be adjusted for department/scheduling needs. Potential travel to our Lebanon Church Road office to assist when needed.

Responsibilities
  • Check schedules and organize patient flow.
  • Accompany patients to exam/procedure rooms.
  • Assist patients as needed with walking, transfers, dressing, collecting specimens, and preparing for exam.
  • Collect patient information and history, take vitals, and perform screenings per provider guidelines.
  • Relay instructions to patients and families.
  • Send/receive patient medical records in accordance with Health Insurance.
  • Comply with HIPAA and other state and federal regulations.
  • Prepare patient rooms, set up instruments and equipment according to department protocol.
  • Clean exam/procedure rooms, instruments, and equipment between patient visits to maintain infection control.
  • Clean according to the scheduled maintenance program and keep appropriate records.
  • Manage inventory of supplies; restock exam/procedure rooms.
  • Comply with the requirements of appropriate regulatory agencies (OSHA, CLIA, PA Department of Health).
  • Maintain strict confidentiality related to medical records and other data.
  • Comply with all UPMC Health System policies and procedures.
  • Perform phlebotomy, EKGs, and level‑one labs.
  • Perform clinic procedures according to policy and procedure.
  • Assist physicians with procedures.
  • Document patient information into the medical record.
  • Answer calls and provide pertinent information, including patient education as directed.
  • Obtain lab/x‑ray reports, hospital notes, referral information, etc.
  • Complete forms and requisitions as needed.
  • Schedule appointments.
  • Verify insurance coverage and patient demographics.
  • Prepare and manage charts to ensure information is completed and filed appropriately.
  • Other front‑office responsibilities, as required.
  • Under the direction and supervision of a physician, administer injectable medication and vaccines when appropriate.
  • High school diploma or equivalent is required.
  • Must have basic computer skills and knowledge of medical terminology, examination, diagnostic, and treatment room responsibilities.
  • Previous medical assistant and/or direct patient care experience highly preferred.
Licensure, Certifications, and Clearances
  • CPR required (AHA standards) within 30 days of hire.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) or Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR).
  • Act 31 Child Abuse Reporting with renewal.
  • Act 33 with renewal.
  • Act 34 with renewal.
  • Act 73 FBI Clearance with renewal.
