Job summary

Columbia Memorial Hospital is hiring a Medical Assistant to perform general patient care in clinics and maintain supplies under supervision. You will assist with charting, scheduling, and filing, and support the front desk as needed.

Qualified candidates have MA training, national certification, BLS, and are able to work in a fast-paced environment. Prior MA experience is preferred; bilingual skills are a plus.

Qualifications

• Graduate of accredited school for medical assistants or equivalent training.
• Active national certification/registration (AAMA/AMCA/AMT/NAHP/NCCT/NHA).
• Current Basic Life Support (BLS) through the American Heart Association.
• Previous MA experience preferred; bilingual preferred.

Job description

SEIU Pay Range: $25.65 to $38.55 Dependent on Experience

This position is responsible for general Medical Assistant duties in dealing with patients in the clinics. Is responsible to maintain supplies and provide direct patient care on the patients under the supervision of office manager and/or physician. In addition, this position supports the Customer Service Representative with clerical duties such as scheduling and filing. May have supportive responsibility in answering the telephone appropriately and routing calls correctly and assembling patient charts. Must be flexible as needs arise and possess willingness to acquire new or perform different skills while adapting to a changing environment.

Knowledge of/Skill/Ability to: Oral and written and interpersonal communication skills. Organizational and problem-solving skills. Must be able to handle multiple tasks and exercise independent judgment as needed. Must be able to handle fast-paced, stressful environment while juggling multiple priorities.

License/Certification

MA Required Qualifications

• Coursework/Training: Graduate of accredited school for medical assistants, or alternate training program through one of the following:
• Active National certification/registration:
• Association of Medical Assistants (AAMA)
• ii. American Medical Certification Association (AMCA)
• iii. American Medical Technologists (AMT)
• iv. National Healthcareer Association (NHA)
• National Center for Competency Testing (NCCT)
• vi. National Association for Healthcare Professionals (NAHP)
• Graduate of schools for MA diploma/certificate from the military in Medical Specialist Course
• Emergency Medical Responders (EMR), Emergency Medical Technician (EMT), or Paramedic Course Completion/Certification
• Current Basic Life Support (BLS) through American Heart Association

AND

Education And/or Experience

Previous Medical Assistant experience preferred. Bilingual preferred. Must possess appropriate knowledge for performing patient care. Computer experience preferred.

Physical Demands and Work Environment Conditions / ADA Compliance

May be exposed to infection when cleaning contaminated rooms. Work is in a fast-paced, changing environment. Normal or corrected vision and hearing required. Must speak, read, write and understand English. Dexterity required to operate equipment. Must have knowledge of medical terminology and possess verbal and clerical skills. Works inside. Walking and standing much of time while on duty. Occasional long shift necessary. Occasional lifting and transferring patients unassisted. Lifts or carries up to 50 pounds. Fast paced environment.
