JOB SUMMARY:

The Medical Assistant Lead is responsible for facilitation of patient care through the delivery of timely, quality patient health services. This position is also responsible for assisting Clinic Manager to complete weekly staffing schedules; ordering and maintaining weekly vaccines, medical inventory; and organizing Clinic/Community Events.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

Procedures:

  • Work with medical staff to provide support, contact patients, follow up with patients, and maintain files and policies for clinical procedures.

Rooming Patients:

  • Room patients in exam rooms: including taking vital signs, history, and preparing patient and equipment to be seen by the provider.
  • Collect specimens and perform routine diagnostic procedures including EKGs, audiograms, vision and hearing screenings, ear irrigations, TB skin tests, spirometry, assisting with minor surgery and other procedures.
  • Administer medications and vaccinations per provider order.
Administrative Duties:
  • Receive patient phone calls and takes messages for providers.
  • Fax and mail correspondence for provider and/or charge nurse.
  • Coordinate referrals to outside providers and scheduling outside appointments.
  • Complete pre-visit planning prior to patient appointment to obtain all necessary information and reports for provider review.
Stocking and Cleaning:
  • Responsible for daily stocking and cleaning of patient rooms to facilitate efficient, quality patient care.
  • Perform infection control procedures through the regular cleaning and sterilization of equipment and instruments.
  • Report maintenance and cleaning service issues to manager.
Customer Service:
  • Facilitate relationship between patient and provider.
  • Develop relationships with patient, family, and outside agencies to facilitate coordination of care.
  • Follow through to resolve service problems promptly and professionally with the involvement of appropriate clinic staff.
  • Alert patient to provider changes and/or delays in schedule.

LEAD RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Help the Clinic Manager complete yearly competencies.
  • Train other Medical Assistants in department.
  • Assist with morning Support Staff Huddles.
  • Engage with clinic/community events (i.e., SAGE, Flu Shots etc.).
  • Maintaining clinic medical inventory as well as MAR inventory.
  • Monitoring of temp track binders (blue, red & yellow) & weekly assignments.
  • Back-up for Clinic Support Staff Supervisor (i.e., schedules, call-ins, intranet etc.).
  • Attend appropriate meetings as assigned.
  • Resource for MA/LPN/EMT questions.
  • Assist Clinic Manager with assigned tasks as delegated.
  • Perform other tasks as assigned.

  • Demonstrate sound judgement and decision-making abilities.
  • Ability to prepare and maintain detailed records, files, reports and other correspondence.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective communication.
  • Ability to perform the job in accordance with Riverland Community Health’s Standards of Business Conduct, which includes compliance, ethics and integrity, confidentiality, protection of assets and avoidance of conflicts of interest and inappropriate business relationships.

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE:

  • Successful completion of accredited Medical Assistant or EMT or LPN degree program is required.
  • Bachelor’s degree strongly preferred.
  • Previous clinical experience is preferred.
  • Minimum three (3) years of high level administrative clinical work is required.

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS:

  • Registered Medical Assistant or Certified Medical Assistant is preferred.
  • LPN MN license is preferred
  • EMT License is preferred
  • BLS certification is required.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

Standing for long periods of time. Some bending, stooping and stretching. May be required to lift up to 30 lbs.

WORK ENVIRONMENT:

Work is performed in a clinic office environment. Contact with staff, patients and outside agencies. Possible exposure to communicable disease and medical preparations common to clinic environment.
