Job summary

Henry Ford Health's West Oakland Internists in Novi is seeking a Medical Assistant for the Internal Medicine team. This full-time role supports clinical exams, vitals, patient prep and basic clerical tasks to ensure smooth patient flow.

Ideal candidates will have a Medical Assistant program credential with externship or recent clinical MA experience, and must obtain BLS by orientation. The position offers day shift, Monday-Friday, with a $2,000 sign-on bonus.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required.
• Graduate of a Medical Assistant program with externship (160 hours) or equivalent clinical MA experience.
• Experience in ambulatory care and basic clerical tasks preferred.
• Current BLS certification upon hire or by orientation.

Responsibilities

• Assist with treatments and examinations under provider and RN supervision.
• Interview patients, measure vital signs, and document in charts.
• Prepare treatment rooms and maintain a clean environment.
• Perform basic clerical duties: phones, records, filing.
• Manage supplies and inventory for the clinic.
• Transcribe orders for labs, imaging, and medications as needed.
• Support documentation of encounters and follow-up instructions.

Internal medicine doctors specialize in treating diseases that commonly affect adults as they get older. We provide care for chronic health conditions such as high blood pressure, arthritis and headaches. Your doctor helps you manage your medications, recommend screenings, provide referrals and more.

Assists with the examination and treatment of patients under the direction of a provider (Physician or Advanced Practice Provider).

Responsibilities

• Assists with treatments ordered by provider as supervised by provider or registered nurse.
• Performs select clinical duties. Interviews patients, measures vital signs, and records information on patients' charts.
• Prepares treatment rooms for examination of patients.
• Performs basic clerical duties including answering the phone, maintaining records, and filing.
• Performs basic materials management functions to include ordering and stocking of supplies.
• Assists with maintaining a clean and orderly environment.
• May document the provider's encounter with patients.
• Lists all proper diagnoses and symptoms, as well as follow-up instructions and prescriptions, as indicated by the provider.
• Transcribes patient orders including, but not limited to, laboratory tests, radiology tests, and medications.

Education / Experience Required

High school diploma or G.E.D. equivalent. Basic computer knowledge and keyboarding skills preferred. Ability to perform a wide variety of clinical skills as related to ambulatory patient care preferred. Ability to problem-solve preferred. Possess effective interpersonal and communication skills preferred. EPIC (Electronic Medical Record) experience preferred.

Additional Requirements: Graduate of a Medical Assistant program with completion of a formal clinical externship (160 hour minimum). OR Graduate from a Medical Assistant program without completion of a clinical externship but with a minimum one-year experience in clinical medical assisting within the past five (5) years. OR Current Professionally Recognized Medical Assistant Certification with a minimum of one year of experience in clinical medical assisting. OR Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN). Licensed Paramedic/Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) with at least one-year clinical experience in clinical medical setting within the past five (5) years. OR Military trained medical personnel with at least one-year clinical experience in clinical medical setting within the past five (5) years.

Certification / Licensure Required

Current BLS-C upon hire or successful completion by end of orientation.
