Job summary

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required.
• Minimum 3 years of directly related Medical Assistant experience.
• Experience with EPIC EMR is preferred.

Responsibilities

• Intake patients by obtaining vital signs and weight.
• Obtain history, chief complaint, medications, and allergies; document in the EMR.
• Report pertinent findings to physicians.
• Manage patient appointments according to physician schedules.
• Respond to patient messages per clinic policy.
• Handle medication refills or requests per policy.
• Prepare charts for next clinic; provide test results and records.
• Communicate necessary patient information to the physician promptly.
• Handle internal and external calls; assist in department call center.
• Perform Point of Care Testing (POCT) and report results.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

Medical Assistant-Intermediate (Surgery General)

Job Description

Under general supervision, responsible for general clinical duties such as taking vital signs, giving injections, performing simple diagnostic tests, collecting specimens, sterilizing and cleaning equipment, and maintaining examination rooms at an outpatient care site. May perform some administrative duties and support the documentation of patient records as dictated by the physician or provider.

Responsibilities

• Intakes patients by obtaining vital signs weight.
• Obtains history, chief complaint, medications, allergies, and documents appropriately in the EMR.
• Report all pertinent findings to Physicians.
• Manages patient appointments according to the Physician's schedules and protocols.
• Answers messages from patients by clinic policy.
• Handle all medication refills or request via clinic policy.
• Prepares charts as necessary for next scheduled clinic, provide physician with all necessary test results, lab results and medical records as requested.
• Communicate all necessary patient information to Physician in a timely manner.
• Handles and answers external as well as internal phone calls and assists in department call center transferring calls to the appropriate departments.
• Performs Point of Care Testing (POCT), documents and reports clinical findings to Registered Nurse (RN) in charge and/or Provider.
• Performs all other duties as assigned.

• Knowledge of EPIC software; may be required to be EPIC super user.
• Meets all training and competency requirements.

Required Skills

• Three (3) years of directly-related experience as a Medical Assistant is required.
