Job summary

Advocate Health seeks a qualified Medical Assistant for the Weight Management: Concord - Bariatric Program. This full-time role (40 hours weekly) runs Monday–Friday, 7am–4pm, with a typically included half-day during the week.

The pay range is $22.90–$34.35 per hour, reflecting preparation and clinical responsibilities. The ideal candidate has a high school diploma or GED, formal MA training or relevant military clinical experience, AHA BLS, and CMA/RMA certification with 2 years of clinical MA

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED required.
• Completion of an accredited Medical Assistant program or structured military clinical training per DD214 in lieu of a formal MA program.
• Current American Heart Association (AHA) BLS certification.
• Certification as CMA or RMA by recognized organizations listed in the posting.
• Two years of experience in a clinical practice setting as a Medical Assistant.

Responsibilities

• Adheres to Medical Assistant scope of practice and follows policies and procedures.
• Performs rooming/visit tasks: vital signs, medication reconciliation, medical history, health maintenance, allergy review, and screenings.
• Assists provider with procedures as ordered.
• Performs lab duties including venipuncture, specimen handling, and CLIA-waived tests as applicable.
• Administers medications and vaccines per medication administration rights.
• Handles duties such as refills, authorizations, scheduling, and referrals.
• Maintains clean work environment and stocked areas.
• May assist with training and onboarding of teammates.
• Must provide age-appropriate care and understand growth and development.

Education & Experience Requirements

• Recognized or certified as a CMA or RMA by one of the following National Organizations: American Association of Medical Assistants (AAMA), National Health Career Association (NHA), National Healthcare Worker's Association (NHCWA), National Center for Competency Testing (NCCT), American Registry of Medical Assistants (ARMA) American Medical Technologists (AMT), National Association for Health Professionals (NAHP), National Registry of Medical Assistants (NRMA)
• Two years of experience in a clinical practice setting as a Medical Assistant.

Key Responsibilities

• Adheres to Medical Assistant scope of practice, follows all policies and procedures, and maintains training and competency based on area of specialty when providing patient care.
• Performs rooming/visit tasks such as vital signs, medication reconciliation, medical history, health maintenance, allergy review, and screenings (depression, suicide, falls, social drivers of health, etc.).
• Assists provider with or performs procedures as ordered.
• Performs lab related duties such as venipuncture, specimen collection/labeling/packing, preparation of lab orders/requisitions, and results tracking. Point of Care testing (POCT) per standing order/provider order. Completes Clinical Laboratory Improvement Amendments (CLIA) approved waived laboratory tests and practice-specific diagnostic testing in adherence to CLIA standards. T
• Administers medications and vaccines safely following the rights of medication administration.
• Performs other duties as assigned such as medication refills, insurance authorizations, safety/regulatory log completion, patient messaging, medication/supply ordering, appointment scheduling, and referrals.
• Demonstrates effective and timely communication, teamwork, and appropriate escalation.
• Maintains a clean work environment ensuring instruments and equipment are cleaned appropriately. Ensures equipment and supplies are in working order, and areas are appropriately stocked.
• May assist with training and onboarding of other teammates.
• May serve as a role champion or on a committee.
• Must be able to demonstrate knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the age of the patients served. Must demonstrate knowledge of the principles of growth and development over the life span and possess the ability to assess data reflective of the patient's status and interpret the appropriate information needed to identify each patient's requirements relative to his/her age-specific needs, and to provide the care needed as described in the department's policies and procedures. Age-specific information is developed further in the departmental job standards.

Required Skills

• Ability to perform routine and complex technical skills, within the Medical Assistant scope of practice after demonstrated competency.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills; ability to develop rapport and maintain positive, professional relationships with a variety of patients, team members and physicians.
• Proficient computer skills including keyboarding, navigation within a windows operating system, and use of electronic mail with exposure to electronic medical records systems.
• Demonstrates customer service skills that support a positive patient experience.
