Advanced Medical Assistant – Princess Anne Office (Virginia Beach)

Full time position for an advanced medical assistant, providing outpatient care for our patients and assisting our physicians in all clinical areas of the practice. Responsible for front and back office procedures. Also assists Physicians and Nurses with the medical examination of patients.


Responsibilities


  • Train and orient new medical assistants.

  • QA review of patient charts to obtain all pertinent documentation for return and postpartum patients.

  • Update patient prenatal lab forms for all follow-up patients.

  • Schedule outside patient referrals.

  • Maintain & order supplies for the clinic, including weekly checks for expired materials/medications and/or materials close to expiration.

  • Takes vital signs such as height, weight, temperature, and blood pressure. May draw blood and give injections under the immediate supervision of a Physician or RN.

  • Chaperone when appropriate and assist during certain minor surgeries and diagnostic procedures, such as Pap Smears.

  • Maintain clean, well‑equipped examination rooms; clean and sterilize instruments.

  • Stock examination rooms and triage area with medical supplies, inventory and reorder supplies.

  • Document all information in EMR.

  • Prepare education packets.

  • Check EMR tasks daily.

  • Review patient lab results, discuss abnormal findings with the physician and follow up with patient regarding treatment as necessary.

  • Answer incoming telephone calls and refer calls as necessary. Take messages, page doctors, handle hospital consults, and answer inquiries.

  • Schedule appointments with doctors, call patients to remind and confirm appointments; reschedule patients from the bump list, and schedule residents’ clinics where appropriate.

  • Prepare charts for the next day; create new patient charts, file and pull charts, and check charts for referrals and authorization prior to visit; also prepare charge tickets.

  • Greet patients in a courteous manner, complete clinical intake, and notify nurses/medical assistants/MDs of arrivals.

  • Check‑in and check‑out patients, obtain and write referrals, and when appropriately trained and directed, schedule outside appointments with specialists.

  • Give directions to patients and visitors.

  • Maintain order in the reception room.

  • Copy medical records.

  • Provide back‑up coverage for medical assistant, billing, etc.

  • Assist RNs and LPNs with administrative duties.

  • Handle pick‑up and drop‑off of medications.

  • Perform phone triage.

  • Perform other duties as assigned, according to the department’s needs.


Qualifications


  • Successful completion of a Medical Assistant program (or equivalent military training) and certification (CMA or RMA) is required.

  • Must have working knowledge of computers.

  • Customer service‑oriented individual is required.

  • At least one (1) year of clinical experience in a physician’s office.

  • Experience in a fast‑paced ambulatory setting is required.

  • Women’s health experience preferred but not required.

  • Location: Virginia Beach, VA.


Patient confidentiality must be maintained at all times.
