Job summary

The US Oncology Network affiliated cancer care clinic in Newark, DE is seeking a Medical Assistant to support physicians and nursing staff in patient care and clinic operations.

Responsibilities include patient intake, data collection, room preparation, injections, and administrative tasks in a fast-paced oncology/hematology setting.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Certificate of graduation from an accredited Medical Assistant program preferred.
  • Minimum three years of experience as a medical assistant or nursing assistant.

Responsibilities

  • Escort patients to and from exam rooms and treatment areas.
  • Record patient data prior to physician visits (vital signs, height, weight, allergies, medication changes).
  • Obtain necessary patient records as required by physician prior to treatment or procedures.
  • Prepare and stock exam/treatment rooms and order supplies.
  • Assist physicians with exams and procedures as requested.
  • Administer subcutaneous and intramuscular injections as delegated.
  • Maintain exam/treatment room disinfection protocols.
  • Respond to patients’ calls as requested; perform other administrative duties as needed.
  • Alert nurse/physician of abnormal vitals or important information from patients.
  • Schedule blood transfusions, therapeutic phlebotomies, and order special tests.

Overview

Delaware’s Largest Cancer Treatment Group- Medical Oncology Hematology Consultants, Newark, DE We are a private practice comprised of 16 physicians and 12 APPs. Our mission is to provide quality cancer care to the patients in our local community. We are affiliated with the US Oncology Network, which is one of the nation’s largest networks of integrated, community-based oncology practices that are dedicated to advancing high-quality, evidence-based cancer care. Our board-certified physicians in Hematology and Medical Oncology, Palliative Care Medicine, and breast surgery have trained and held faculty positions in nationally and internationally recognized academic centers. Our physicians have extensive experience in the diagnosis and treatment of malignant diseases and disorders of the blood and breast.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Escorts patients to and from exam rooms, physician offices, and treatment room as appropriate.
  • Records patient data prior to each physician visit, including but not limited to, vital signs, height, weight, allergies, and medication changes.
  • Obtains all necessary patient records as required by physician prior to treatment or procedures.
  • Prepares and stocks exam/treatment rooms and orders supplies as needed.
  • Assists physicians with exams and procedures as requested.
  • Depending on practice-specific protocols, may be asked to obtain.
  • Administers subcutaneous and intramuscular injections, as delegated by RN or physician.
  • Maintains all exam/treatment room disinfection protocols.
  • Responds to patients’ calls as requested.-Performs other administrative duties, i.e. typing, filing faxing reception, etc, as requested by supervisor or physician.
  • Alerts nurse/physician of abnormal vitals, any important information given by patient.
  • Collection of inbound meaningful use data. Flu documentation, initial height and weight.
  • Prints med list for patient to review.
  • Fill out disability forms.
  • Schedule blood transfusions, therapeutic phlebotomies, ordering special tests (Oncotypes, Kras testing, EGFR (epidural growth factor receptor), Myraid, Paradigm, etc).
  • May enter orders under a provider’s direction and supervision.
Qualifications

High school graduate or equivalent. Certificate of graduation from an accredited program for Medical Assistants preferred. Minimum three years experience as a medical assistant or nursing assistant.

Phlebotomy experience preferred. Current BCLS (Basic Cardiac Life Support) certification required. Certified Medical Assistant preferred.

Some state regulations may require specific certifications in order to work as a Medical Assistant.
