Job summary

AltaMed Health Services in El Monte, CA is seeking a Medical Assistant II to join our in-person clinic team. The MA II provides direct patient care, documents in the EHR, and supports back-office operations while ensuring a positive patient experience.

Responsibilities include assisting with routine clinical procedures, coordinating with nurses and physicians, and mentoring junior staff. A Medical Assistant certificate and HS diploma are required, with BLS certification encouraged.

Qualifications

  • Medical Assistant certificate required with high school diploma or equivalent.
  • Minimum 1 year experience as back-office MA in outpatient/clinic.
  • Phlebotomy certification preferred.
  • Nationally recognized MA certification preferred.
  • Bilingual English/Spanish/Mandarin/Cantonese strongly preferred depending on location.
  • A valid BLS certification or higher required.

Responsibilities

  • Provide direct patient care and routine clinical procedures.
  • Document all patient encounters in the Electronic Health Record (EHR).
  • Perform clerical and back-office support to clinic operations.
  • Mentor and train other Medical Assistants as needed.
  • Support Phone/Patient Service Center duties when required.

Job Overview

The Medical Assistant (MA) II functions as an AltaMed ambassador at the assigned clinic, PSC, or Patient Registry team. The MA is welcoming and attentive to the needs of all patients and creates a positive patient experience by managing expectations while demonstrating compassion and respect. The MA assists in the provision of direct patient care by performing routine patient care procedures and technical/clerical support services in the clinical setting. The MA builds relationships with patients, listening to them and gaining their trust. The MA demonstrates compassion and respect and will be proactive in managing patients’ expectations. In addition, the Medical Assistant documents all specialties in the Electronic Health Record (EHR) and assists with administrative responsibilities that include providing feedback on Back-Office processes to the Nursing Supervisor/Manager. Lastly, the MA assists in achieving department goals and objectives by providing support and guidance to the Medical Assistant team as a mentor and trainer. If working at the Patient Service Center, the MA provides other duties over the telephone.

Minimum Requirements
  • A Medical Assistant certificate, along with a high school diploma or equivalent required.
  • A minimum of 1 year of experience as a back office Medical Assistant preferred in the outpatient setting, medical practice, or clinic setting.
  • Phlebotomy certified preferred
  • Nationally recognized Medical Assistant certification, preferred.
  • Bilingual English/Spanish/Mandarin/Cantonese, depending on location, strongly preferred.
  • A minimum requirement of a valid BLS certification or higher, following the American Heart Association (AHA) or the American Red Cross guidelines.
Compensation

$26.00 - $30.55 hourly
