Job summary

Planned Parenthood Los Angeles is seeking an experienced Medical Assistant to support the Long Beach Health Center. This full-time role covers front and back office duties, patient testing, education, and compassionate care in reproductive health services.

Ideal candidates hold a Medical Assistant certificate, have 1–2 years in clinical settings, and are flexible for Saturdays. BLS and venipuncture skills are required or obtainable within 30 days; the center emphasizes empathetic, non-judgmental

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required.
• Medical Assistant Diploma/Certificate required.
• BLS Certification required or willingness to obtain within 30 days of hire.
• 1–2 years experience in a clinical setting.
• Availability to work flexible hours including Saturdays.
• Venipuncture and Injection training to be completed within one year.
• Reproductive health care experience desirable.
• Knowledge of surgical services preferred.
• Keep current on anatomy, contraception, STIs, pregnancy, and related procedures.

Responsibilities

• Obtain medical history, interview and educate clients ensuring informed consent.
• Assist with the Patient Portal Enrollment process.
• Obtain vital signs (blood pressure, height, weight).
• Accompany clients during procedures as necessary.
• Assist nurses and clinicians.
• Pregnancy testing and options counseling.
• Provide abortion education and schedule pre-screenings.
• Maintain clean and stocked exam/interview rooms.
• Follow infection control and safety guidelines.
• Perform venipuncture, injections, and phlebotomy as needed.
• Turn on equipment (EKG, pulse oximeter) and monitor as directed.
