JOB SUMMARY

The Medical Assistant supports providers and clinical teams in delivering high-quality patient-centered care across Hamilton Health Center clinical departments. This role is responsible for assisting with patient flow, care coordination, clinical documentation, patient education, and operational support while ensuring compliance with organizational, regulatory, and patient safety standards.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
  • Review provider schedules and compile patient lists for team huddles.
  • Review Electronic Medical Records (EMR) utilizing appropriate templates for patient preparation.
  • Check and notify providers of lab and diagnostic test results and obtain missing results if necessary.
  • Gather information regarding recent emergency room visits, hospitalizations, or specialist visits to ensure continuity of care.
  • Identify needs of patients with chronic conditions and facilitate care coordination or additional Hamilton Health Center services.
  • Capture accurate medical histories, vital signs, and document chief complaints in the EMR.
  • Assist with routine or specialized procedures under provider direction while ensuring quality patient care.
  • Aid providers during medical examinations as directed.
  • Support patients in setting and monitoring goals, providing necessary information, and directing them to care coordinators or Hamilton Health Center services.
  • Track and communicate test results to appropriate parties.
  • Assist with nurse scheduling, adapt to daily schedule changes, and support team members when required.
  • Maintain cleanliness of patient care rooms and reusable medical equipment following proper protocols.
  • Ensure adequate stock of medical supplies in exam rooms while adhering to storage and safety measures outlined by departmental and nursing leadership.
  • Practice safety, environmental, and infection control measures in accordance with protocol.
  • Maintain patient confidentiality in compliance with HIPAA regulations and adhere to OSHA, Department of Health, and Joint Commission standards.
  • Assist student employees as directed by management.
  • Demonstrate understanding of Primary Care Medical Home (PCMH) principles and advise patients on available Hamilton Health Center services and resources.
  • Adhere to Hamilton Health Center policies, including clinical, employee, and compliance-related policies.
  • Perform additional assigned job-related duties as required.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES REQUIREMENTS
  • Fundamental understanding of healthcare services and basic medical terminology.
  • Proficiency in basic data entry and computer skills.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to communicate effectively and courteously with individuals from diverse backgrounds.
  • Ability to foster collaborative working relationships with clinic management, physicians, clinicians, staff, and the public.
  • Ability to maintain professionalism, confidentiality, and accountability in a healthcare environment.
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage competing priorities in a fast-paced clinical setting.
MINIMUM EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE
Education
  • Graduate of an accredited Medical Assistant program required.
Experience
  • One (1) year of experience in a medical or physician office setting preferred.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
  • Active CPR/First Aid certification preferred.
  • One (1) year of working experience in medical or physician office setting.
  • Knowledge of Joint Commission regulations preferred.
  • Bilingual ability in Spanish, Nepali, or French preferred.
  • Medical Assistant certification.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS/MOTOR COORDINATION

Requires hand-eye coordination; finger dexterity, and a combination of sitting, standing, climbing, stooping, balancing, kneeling, reaching, carrying, pushing, pulling, lifting (up to 15 pounds). Must be able to write, type, use telephone and computer systems, and other office equipment. May require sitting or standing for long periods of time.

WORK ENVIRONMENT

Exposure to routine medical office/health clinic conditions as well as adverse environmental conditions such as dust, temperature and noise extremes, etc. May be exposed to infectious or contagious disease.
