Job summary

UPMC is seeking a full-time Medical Assistant to join the General Academics Pediatrics team in Oakland. You will support physicians with rooming, vital signs, point-of-care testing, medication and vaccine administration, and phlebotomy.

Qualifications

• Assist physicians with patient care including rooming, vital signs, point-of-care testing, medication administration, vaccine administration, and phlebotomy.

Responsibilities

• Send/receive patient records in accordance with HIPAA and other regulations.
• Obtain lab/x-ray reports, hospital notes, referral information, and schedule appointments; verify insurance and demographics; manage charts.
• Prepare patient rooms and maintain infection control; restock and organize supplies.
• Assist patients with walking, transfers, and exam preparation; collect information and vitals per provider guidance.
• Answer calls and provide patient education as directed.
• Perform phlebotomy, EKGs, and level one labs; document information in the medical record.
• Comply with regulatory requirements (OSHA, CLIA, PA DOH) and UPMC policies.
• Under physician supervision, administer injectable medications and vaccines when appropriate.

UPMC is looking for a full time Medical Assistant to join their General Academics Pediatrics team located in Oakland.

You will assist physicians with various aspects of patient care (including clerical, environmental, and organizational tasks) ensuring patient satisfaction. Primary responsibilities of this role include rooming, obtaining vital signs, point of care testing, medication administration, vaccine administration, and phlebotomy.

This role will work daylight hours, with one afternoon shift (11am to 7:30pm) once orientation is completed. Flexible scheduling options once orientation is complete, and able to work four - 10 hour shifts.

Responsibilities:

• Send/receive patient medical records in accordance with Health Insurance. Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) and other state and federal regulations.
• Obtain lab/x-ray reports, hospital notes, referral information, etc. Complete forms/requisitions as needed. Schedule appointments. Verify insurance coverage and patient demographics. Prepare and managing charts to ensure information completed and filed appropriately. Other front office responsibilities, as required.
• Prepare patient rooms, set up instruments and equipment according to department protocol. Clean exam/procedure rooms, instruments and equipment between patient visits to maintain infection control. Clean according to scheduled maintenance program and keeping appropriate records. Manage inventory of supplies; restocking exam/procedure rooms.
• Check schedules and organizing patient flow. Accompany patients to exam/procedure room. Assist patients as needed with walking, transfers, dressing, collecting specimens, preparing for exam, etc. Collect patient information/history, taking vitals, performing screenings per provider guidelines. Relay instructions to patients/families.
• Answering calls and providing pertinent information including patient education as directed.
• Perform phlebotomy, EKG's, and level one labs. Perform clinic procedures according to policy and procedure. Assist physicians with procedures. Document patient information into the medical record.
• Comply with requirements of appropriate regulatory agencies (i.e., OSHA, CLIA, PA Department of Health). Maintain strict confidentiality related to medical records and other data. Comply with all UPMC Health System policies and procedures.
• Under the direction and supervision of a physician, administer injectable medication and vaccines when appropriate.
