Responsibilities

• Room patients, obtain vital signs and document symptoms, reason for visit, frequency and severity.
• Provide injections, immunizations and other patient care services as ordered by the medical provider.
• Assist during medical procedures and manage referrals, lab results, and prescriptions using the EMR.
• Greet and check in patients, schedule appointments, handle insurance verifications, authorizations and inquiries.
• Maintain patient records, protect confidentiality, and ensure clinic cleanliness and inventory.

Job Description Summary:

The Medical Assistant - Front/Back Swing, under the supervision of the Clinical Lead and Practice Leader, is responsible for assisting in the delivery of healthcare and patient care management. This role assists the providers within scope of practice to provide quality patient care. This includes gathering patient information, assessing patient requests, obtaining and monitoring patient vitals, assisting with procedures and re‑processing instruments.

Job Requirements, Prerequisites and Essential Functions:

Pay Range: $28.00 - $31.21 - $36.41

Medical Assistant Essential Functions and Responsibilities:

• Rooming patients, including obtaining vital signs, obtaining reason for visit, and documenting symptoms their frequency, and severity.
• Provide courteous and compassionate care.
• Documents all required information in electronic medical record. This includes meaningful Use data, Pay for Performance data, and ACO related information. (Allscripts Experience preferred)
• Provide injections, immunizations and other patient care services as ordered by the medical provider.
• Provide assistance during medical procedures.
• Communication and correspondence including lab results, prescription management, and referrals: Use electronic medical records and work off "task lists" to complete patient visits or requests.
• Recognize urgent medical needs and triage care appropriately.
• Provides patients with accurate information when answering questions and concerns.
• Maintains patient records and protects patient confidentiality.
• Complete referrals accurately and appropriately.
• Disinfects exam rooms between patients and all patient areas at end of the day. Assist with clinic upkeep, including daily cleaning and supply ordering/inventory.

Admin Support Essential Functions and Responsibilities:

• Answer telephones in a cheerful manner.
• Schedule appointments.
• Take messages for patients using electronic medical records.
• Greet and check in patients.
• Address patient requests and inquires.
• Resolve patient concerns.
• Process insurance issues (i.e., verifications and authorizations) and assist patients in understanding insurance plans.
• Return calls as necessary.

Qualifications:

• Education: High school diploma or General Educational Development (GED) certificate required.
• Licenses/Certifications: A Medical Assistant certification from an accredited program such as NHA and AMCA is required. BLS Certification (American Heart Association) required.
• Experience: At least one year of related medical assisting experience in a physician’s office or other clinical setting, or equivalent combination of training and experience. Re‑processing/ procedural experience is highly preferred.
