Job summary

IHA in Connecticut is seeking a Medical Assistant – Float (Multi-Specialty) to provide flexible clinical support across specialty practices. The role includes rooming patients, taking vital signs, assisting with procedures, and documenting in the electronic health record while adapting to varying workflows.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent required.
• Minimum of six (6) months of related work experience is required.
• National Certification as a Medical Assistant a plus.

Responsibilities

• Prepares exam and treatment rooms. Prepares patients for examination and treatment.
• Obtains pertinent history, records chief complaint, medical history, allergies, medications, and vital signs.
• Processes and files lab/diagnostic results and clinical notes after physician review.
• Coordinates patient flow and collaborates with reception to ensure timely visits.
• Assists front office with telephone, scheduling, and related tasks.

Position Purpose

Medical Assistant – Float (Multi-Specialty) provides flexible clinical support across a variety of specialty practices, stepping in to assist where coverage is needed most. Responsibilities include rooming patients, taking vital signs, administering medications, assisting with procedures, and maintaining accurate documentation in the electronic health record. Adapts quickly to different workflows and collaborates with a wide range of care teams to ensure smooth, high-quality patient experiences. Ideal for someone who is adaptable, organized, and thrives in a dynamic, fast-paced healthcare environment.

What You Will Do

• Prepares exam and treatment rooms. Prepares patients for examination and treatment.
• Obtains pertinent history, enters into the medical record including chief complaint, medical and surgical history, allergies, medications, and appropriate review of systems, and takes/documents patient vital signs.
• Processes and files all lab/diagnostic test results, correspondence, clinical notes in patients’ chart after they have been reviewed by the physician.
• Coordinates patient flow in the office. Collaborates with receptionist to make certain that patients are seen in a timely and efficient manner.
• Assists front office personnel by answering the telephone, scheduling patient appointments, and other tasks as needed.

Minimum Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent required
• Minimum of six (6) months of related work experience is required
• Knowledge of medical assisting normally associated with obtaining an Associate’s Degree in Medical Assistance is preferred, National Certification as a Medical Assistant a plus
