Job description

Overview of Position

Under the direction of the RN Supervisor or Site Manager, CherryHealth floats a Medical Assistant who supports the patient by actively participating in the interdisciplinary care team and assists providers in the delivery of primary care services. This includes maintaining patients and ensuring compliance with policies, procedures, and licensing standards. The role requires adherence to CherryHealth’s mission in all actions and communications.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Complete chart preparation for each patient, including review of the population health management system, updating orders and referrals, and gathering other information as required, such as hospital records.
  • Record information in the electronic health record.
  • Manage clinic flow by greeting patients, determining needs, and directing patients to the examining room; follow rooming procedures including checking for recent ER or hospital visits, taking vital signs, completing screening tests, and health maintenance orders.
  • Perform medication reviews, including removing short‑term medications from the medication module.
  • Assist providers with examinations and procedures, including preparing necessary supplies, performing cleanup afterward, and implementing provider orders such as blood draws, ECGs, labs, dressings, treatments, refills, and routine testing procedures.
  • Document results in the electronic health record as appropriate, prepare specimens for transportation, fill necessary forms, and arrange for transport.
  • File patient information and assist with medical records responsibilities.
  • Administer high‑risk medications or injections following established guidelines.
  • Manage all aspects of the vaccine program, including storage and handling, inventory management, ordering, and reporting.
  • Manage telephone inquiries, conduct patient callbacks as assigned, and assist nurses and providers with incoming patient information.
  • Approve timecards in the time and attendance system as directed.
  • Adhere to universal precautions and CherryHealth policies.
  • Maintain compliance with the corporate compliance policy, code of conduct, and conflict of interest policy.
  • Stay informed about all relevant federal, state, and CherryHealth regulations and adapt to changes.
  • Precept medical assistant apprentices, externs, or new employees as needed.
  • Represent CherryHealth at community events, job fairs, recruitment fairs, and other engagements as requested.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Licenses / Certificates
  • Completion of an accredited Medical Assisting program and/or attainment of one of the following certifications:
  • CMA – Certified Medical Assistant through the American Association of Medical Assistants.
  • RMA – Registered Medical Assistant through American Medical Technologists.
  • CCMA – Certified Clinical Medical Assistant through National Healthcareer Association.
  • NCMA – National Certified Medical Assistant through National Center for Competency Testing.
  • ARMA – Advanced Registered Medical Assistant through the American Registry of Medical Assistants.
  • NRCMA – National Registered Certified Medical Assistant through National Association for Health Professionals.
  • Completion of an in‑house specialties training program, including competency in using all organizational electronic health record templates.
Experience

One to two years of previous medical‑assisting experience preferred, or an equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties of the job.

Physical Requirements

Possible exposure to patients with illnesses and/or infections; frequent telephone and computer use; manual dexterity for writing and computer work. Requires sitting, standing, or walking for extended periods; abilities to bend, squat, or kneel; lifting up to 50pounds; use of personal protective equipment as required.
