Job summary

Spira Care is seeking a Medical Assistant, Float to provide clinical and administrative support across all Kansas City area centers. You will adapt to diverse providers and patient needs, traveling between care centers to ensure seamless patient care.

The role combines MA duties with flexibility to work across different environments, ideal for those who adapt quickly and enjoy variety in fast-paced settings.

Qualifications

  • Vocational or technical training as a Medical Assistant.
  • Certified or Registered as a Medical Assistant.
  • BLS certification from American Red Cross or American Heart Association.
  • Maintain licensures and certifications throughout employment.
  • Must have reliable transportation to travel between care centers.
  • Will be required to travel between care centers.

Responsibilities

  • Assist in examination and treatment under physician direction.
  • Take vital signs and record in EMR; assist with tests.
  • Administer immunizations or medications as directed.
  • Perform point of care testing and observe patient reactions.
  • Perform phlebotomy and prepare specimens.
  • Manage patient care flow and set up rooms as needed.
  • Stock and dispense supplies for care centers.
  • Handle phone scheduling and patient registration as needed.
  • Educate patients and support self-management under supervision.
  • Coordinate referrals and care gaps with disease/case management.

Job Description Summary

The Medical Assistant, Float provides clinical and administrative support across all Spira Care centers, adapting to diverse providers, patient needs, and workflows each day. This role ensures seamless patient care by combining traditional Medical Assistant responsibilities with the flexibility to adapt to different care centers. This position is ideal for individuals who thrive in fast-paced, dynamic environments and enjoy variety, flexibility, and working with diverse providers and patients. This position requires traveling to all Spira Care clinics.

Job Description
  • Assist in examination and treatment of patients under the direction of a physician
  • Take vital signs, record in EMR, perform systems review and point of care testing, and assist providers with diagnostic tests
  • Administer immunizations, injections, or oral medications as directed by provider or standing order
  • Perform point of care testing, treatment and therapeutic measures, and observe and record patient reactions
  • Perform phlebotomy, prepare designated lab work and/or specimens as directed by provider or standing order
  • Manage patient care flow, set up exam/procedure room appropriately based on patient visit needs
  • Perform inventory of care center supplies and dispense, order and stock care center supplies
  • Where necessary, act as the external-facing representative for the care center (scheduling appointments over the phone, patient registration, etc.)
  • Engage in routine patient education, self-management teaching under the direction of the provider
  • Coordinate care with disease management or case management programs
  • Track future patient care needs such as preventive exams, completion of outside diagnostic testing, and referrals
  • Coordinate referrals, care gap closures, release of records, and overall care through patient and specialist outreach
  • Adapt quickly to varying care center environments, providers and workflows to manage flexibility in daily assignments
Minimum Qualifications
  • Vocational or technical training as a Medical Assistant
  • Certified or Registered as a Medical Assistant
  • BLS certification from American Red Cross or American Heart Association
  • Maintain licensures and certifications throughout employmentExperience setting up exam rooms applying basic understanding of cleaning, sterilization, and autoclaving procedures

  • Must have reliable transportation to travel between care centers as assigned.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience with coding and documentation for Medical Advantage and Hierarchical Condition Category (HCC) coding.
