Job summary

Baylor College of Medicine in Houston, TX is seeking a Medical Assistant for a Float Pool assignment across BCM clinics. You will take vital signs, perform venipuncture, administer medications, and document in EPIC, while maintaining patient comfort and safety.

The role requires strong communication, customer service, and flexibility, plus BLS certification. You will support procedures, prepare rooms, and handle administrative tasks as part of the clinic team.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED and completion of a Medical Assistant Training program through an accredited institution.
  • Two or more years of relevant experience as a Medical Assistant.
  • Current certification as a Medical Assistant through an accredited professional organization (AAMA, AMT, ARMA, NCCT, NHA, NAHP, AMCA, AAHA, AAMP, or NPS).
  • Current Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification through American Heart Association.

Responsibilities

  • Performs routine patient care responsibilities such as taking vital signs, venipuncture (blood draws), collect specimens, EKGs/ECGs, and laboratory Point of Care Testing.
  • Collects patient health history, performs medication reconciliation and enters information in EPIC.
  • Administer Injections and medications as directed by medical provider.
  • Notes the chief complaint/reason for patient's visit.
  • Prepare equipment, examination rooms and clean instruments as directed.
  • Assists with medical procedures and exams as needed.
  • Instructs patients on general care and medicine procedures.
  • Maintains patient and service rooms in a neat and orderly condition.
  • Schedules patient tests, procedures, and appointments.
  • Conducts patient outreach phone calls and post visit follow-ups.
  • Uses the Ring Central-Live Answer to answer clinical calls (department specific).
  • Responds to routine patient phone calls and MyChart messages and route to RN, ACP or Physician as needed.
  • Performs clerical/administrative responsibilities such as filing and/or scanning patient medical records, obtaining lab/x-ray reports, hospital notes, and referral information.
  • Takes inventory of clinic supplies and order supplies as needed.

Proficient in EMR systems preferably (EPIC). Comfortable with standing and moving around for long periods of time.

  • Other job-related duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED and completion of a Medical Assistant Training program through an accredited institution.
  • Two or more years of relevant experience as a Medical Assistant.
  • Current certification as a Medical Assistant through an accredited professional organization (AAMA, AMT, ARMA, NCCT, NHA, NAHP, AMCA,,AAH AAMP, or NPS).
  • Current Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification through American Heart Association.
