Job summary

HCA Healthcare's CareNow network is seeking a Medical Assistant Extern to help prepare patients for examination, take histories and vital signs, and assist with exams and procedures. You will also support injections, labs, phlebotomy, and follow-up coordination.

The role emphasizes teamwork, patient-centered care, and hands-on clinical experience within a large, respected healthcare system.

Qualifications

  • Graduate of an accredited Medical Assisting program or completion of an approved Back Office Training Program (BOTP) is required
  • Certification from the American Association of Medical Assistants (AAMA) is helpful
  • Ability to obtain a Federal Breath Alcohol Screening Certificate and Federal Drug Screening Certification within 30 days of start preferred

Responsibilities

  • Prepare patients for examination and treatment by taking histories and vital signs
  • Prepare exam and treatment rooms with instruments and supplies, including sterilization
  • Provide injections and assist with lab testing and phlebotomy
  • Assist physicians with splints, dressings, and bandages
  • Assist with transfers and scheduling of follow-up care
  • Coordinate patient physicals and workplace injuries for partner accounts
  • Screen incoming calls for referral to physicians and practitioners

Job Summary and Qualifications

As a Medical Assistant Extern, you will:

  • Prepare patients for examination and treatment by taking patient histories and vital signs

  • Prepare exam and treatment rooms with necessary instruments for your patients including preparation and maintenance of supplies and equipment for treatments, including sterilization

  • Give injections, and assist with lab testing and phlebotomy needs

  • Assist physicians in applying splints, dressings, and bandages

  • Assist with transfers and scheduling of follow-up care

  • Coordinate patient physicals and work place injuries for partner accounts

  • Screen incoming calls for referral to physicians and practitioners

You Should Have:

  • Graduate of an accredited school of Medical Assisting or completion of an approved program Back Office Training Program (BOTP) is required
