Job summary

OhioHealth is seeking a Medical Assistant to perform administrative and clinical duties as directed by physicians. The role supports patient care in a fast-paced clinical setting and requires compliance with Ohio Administrative Code.

The candidate must have a High School Diploma or GED plus one of the listed MA qualifications; BLS certification is a plus. A 40-hour work week and dedicated team support are provided.

Qualifications

• Must have High School Diploma or GED and one of the listed MA qualifications.
• Certified as a Medical Assistant or completed MA training required.
• Military Medic training accepted as equivalent.
• Paramedic (EMT-P) certification accepted as qualification.
• At least 1 year experience as a physician-trained MA in a similar clinical setting.

Responsibilities

• Facilitates efficient patient flow and prepares patients for visits as directed by providers.
• Documents in Care Connect EMR and maintains up-to-date patient information.
• Performs administrative duties to support the practice and ensure compliance with licensure and policy.
• Engages in quality improvement activities and supports ongoing professional development.

Job Description Summary:

High School Diploma or Equivalent AND one of the following:

• Completion of a High School Medical Assistant Career Technical Program, or
• Graduation from an accredited School of Medical Assisting, or
• Completion of Military Medic training, or
• Certification as a Paramedic (EMT-P), or
• At least one year of experience as a physician-trained Medical Assistant in a similar clinical setting.

This position is responsible for administrative and clinical duties delegated by the physician. The Medical Assistant is responsible for assisting physician with patient care in compliance with the Ohio Administrative Code. Other responsibilities include, but are not limited to, routine clinical and administrative duties as needed to meet the needs of the practice to which it is assigned. The duties of the Medical Assistant vary from office to office based on size and specialty of the practice.

Responsibilities And Duties:

Facilitates efficient and effective patient flow including preparing thepatient for the visitand providingspecific services as determined byproviders in accordance withproviderlicensure, OHpolicyand scope of practice.
Successful completion of Care Connect EMR documentation skills.
Performs necessary administrative duties that assure all information is current and updated. Includes maintenance and monitoring of EMRin basket.
Maintains and cleans environment, work area, equipment, and communicates any equipment malfunctions to appropriatedept/unit personnel.
Communicates with patients and customers in a respectful and caring manner.
Communicates, collaborates, and anticipates the needs of the health care team to ensure continuity and quality of care and coordination of services.
Collects andmonitors patient data; reportspatient data and patient need as directed.
Maintainsdocumentation guidelines aroundpatient chargeable items/services.
Ensuresprocesses and services are continuously monitored for quality, cost effectiveness,and efficiency.
Engages in process and quality improvement activities. Makes and implements recommendations to improve operational efficiency and to implement new services for areas of responsibility.
Engages in continuous study of the entire professional field, including best practices, to maintain the professional competence, knowledge, and skills necessary for the satisfactory performance of all assigned responsibilities.
Completes required continuous training and education, including department specific requirements.
Promotes and advocates for patient quality, safety,and experience initiatives.Acts as a role model.
Serves as SME/resource to thedept/unit/practice in areas such as quality, performance improvement, andEMR(i.e., EPICSuper User).
Has oversight of efficient and effective patient flow including preparing the patient for the visit/admission and providing specific services and education as determined by the providers in accordance with licensure and policy.
Leads and supportsdevelopment ofstandard work and developsnecessary customizations.
Functions as a clinical preceptor and is responsible for training new staff.
Is compliant with scope of practice.
