Job summary

Virginia Mason Franciscan Health seeks a Medical Assistant to keep clinics running smoothly and support the clinical team. You will prepare patient charts, gather history, vitals, and medications, and assist with examinations.

Your role involves phlebotomy, EKGs, basic lab work, medication administration, and coordinating tests and referrals across departments.

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or GED required at hire.
  • Completion of an accredited Medical Assistant certification program or equivalent military training.
  • Medical Assistant Certification: WA required at hire.
  • American Heart Association – CPR (BLS) required at hire.

Responsibilities

  • Patient Intake & Clinical Support: greet patients, collect vital signs, medical history, medications, allergies; assist with examinations and mobility.
  • Clinical Procedures & Testing: phlebotomy, EKGs, basic lab procedures, administer medications, communicate lab results, support testing.
  • Medical Documentation & Record Management: document encounters, update EMR, review for accuracy, ensure confidentiality.
  • Care Coordination & Scheduling: schedule appointments, referrals, coordinate patient flow and follow-up care across departments.
  • Clinic Operations & Inventory Management: prepare/sterilize instruments, maintain exam rooms, manage supplies and equipment, ensure a safe environment.
  • Patient Communication & Administrative Support: educate patients, handle calls, verify insurance, registrations, payments, escalate issues as needed.

Job Summary and Responsibilities

As our Medical Assistant, you'll keep the day running smoothly and efficiently for your patients and clinical team.

Every day, you will take the lead on proactively preparing patient charts, ensuring all information is obtained and up-to-date for those seen in our facility. You can expect to have multiple patients daily depending on the number of physicians are on-site.

Your success in this role comes from your enthusiasm to help others, work efficiently, and your empathy for our patients.

  • Patient Intake & Clinical Support Greet and prepare patients, collect vital signs, medical history, medications, allergies, and assist with examinations and patient mobility.
  • Clinical Procedures & Testing Perform phlebotomy, EKGs, basic laboratory procedures, administer approved medications, communicate lab results, and support diagnostic testing.
  • Medical Documentation & Record Management Document patient encounters, update electronic medical records, review records for accuracy, and ensure compliance with legal and confidentiality requirements.
  • Care Coordination & Scheduling Schedule appointments, diagnostic services, referrals, and coordinate patient flow and follow-up care across departments and providers.
  • Clinic Operations & Inventory Management Prepare and sterilize instruments, maintain exam rooms, manage supplies and equipment, and ensure a safe, organized clinical environment.
  • Patient Communication & Administrative Support Provide patient education, handle telephone communications, verify insurance, process registrations, collect payments, and resolve routine issues while escalating concerns as needed.
Job Requirements

Required

  • High School Graduate General Studies, upon hire or
  • High School GED General Studies, upon hire and
  • completion of a Medical Assistant certification program at an accredited institution or validation of equivalent military training (i.e. Hospital Corpsman) that demonstrates attainment of the requisite job knowledge skills/abilities. , upon hire and
  • Medical Assistant Certification: WA, upon hire and
  • American Heart Association- Basic Life Support - CPR, upon hire

Preferred

  • One year of work experience as a Medical Assistant
