Job summary

Confluence Health in Washington is seeking a Medical Assistant Certified Float to support multiple Primary Care areas. The role performs injections, vital signs, patient flow management, and clerical tasks to ensure efficient visits.

You will float across clinics, assist with visits, and coordinate with providers for timely care. The position requires an active MA-C license (WA) or interim licensure, a 1-year commitment, and bilingual ability.

Qualifications

High school diploma or GED required.
Graduate of accredited Medical Assisting program or enrolled in externship/CM licensure pathway.
Active Medical Assistant- Certified or Interim license through WA DOH or awaiting licensure.
CPR certification within 90 days of hire.

Responsibilities

Greet patients promptly and prepare exam rooms with the clinical team.
Obtain and record vital signs and relevant patient history in EMR.
Document medical history accurately for complete medical records.
Administer injections and medications as directed by the provider.
Assist in procedures and minor emergencies within MA-C scope.
Schedule labs, imaging, and tests; instruct on specimen collection.
Communicate with patients and coordinate with providers and pharmacies.
Maintain clean, stocked exam rooms; support front desk tasks as needed.
Float across clinics to cover staffing and maintain continuity of care.
Maintain active Basic Life Support (CPR) certification.

Bilingual required with the ability to pass bilingual testing from a Confluence Health Vendor within 90 days of start date.

This position will be split between our Float department and our Stemilt clinic. The Medical Assistant Certified Float will float through Primary Care Areas (Family Medicine, Internal Medicine, WIC, etc.) to help department coverage needs.

The Medical Assistant Certified will assist the provider and health care team in providing excellent customer service and quality patient care by performing a variety of clerical and patient-related tasks. Duties may include but are not limited to: injections, measuring patient vital signs (weight, height, blood pressure, pulse, respirations, and temperature), managing rooming and patient flow, pre-visit preparation, assist with the patient visit, post-visit duties, informing the provider of schedule changes that impact patient flow. May assist with front office activities, scheduling tasks and reporting test results as directed by the provider.

Position Reports To: Practice Manager

Essential Functions

Greets patients in a prompt and friendly manner and prepares patient for exam; in conjunction with clinical team to maintain timely flow of patients.
Obtains and records appropriate vital signs, per department protocols or guidelines in the electronic medical record (EMR).
Obtains patient medical history and reason for visit; documents accurately, in order to maintain a complete and legally correct medical record.
Administers injections and medication as directed by the provider.
Assists in procedures and minor emergencies, as directed by the provider or RN with in the Medical Assistant Certified scope of practice.
Schedules lab, x-ray, and other tests as directed by the provider. Instructs the patient in routine collection of samples; testing procedures and general requirements by specific depts. Provides follow-up lab results and callbacks to patients as delegated.
Communicates with patients, relays important information to the provider, and provides follow-up to the patient. Tasks may include contacting the pharmacy with medication orders and medication refills.
Responsible for maintaining clean exam rooms, cleaning instruments and stocking items for use in the exam and procedure rooms daily.
Available to "float" as this role involves cross-coverage for clinics to ensure adequate staffing and continuity of care across Ambulatory Care Network.
Required to maintain active Basic Life Support (CPR) certification.
Performs other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Required:

High school graduate or GED.
Accredited Medical Assisting program graduate, or enrolled in externship program, OR Medical Assistant Apprentice with completion of the curriculum, passed the CCMA exam, and is awaiting InReach committee consideration to receive Medical Assistant -Certified (CM) Licensure.
Active Medical Assistant Interim (IC) or Medical Assistant - Certified (CM) license through the Washington State Department of Health or Internal Apprentice awaiting licensure.
Basic Life Support (CPR) certification (within 90 days of hire).

Desired:

Previous experience as a Medical Assistant in an ambulatory care setting.
Basic computer skills.
Experience with EPIC electronic health records.

Work is performed at a work station and in patient exam rooms, where space may be limited and confined. Requires a combination of working closely with others. Hours may be irregular at times; overtime may be required. Requires working under stressful conditions. General supervision is provided by the Practice Manager with additional instructions, guidance, and directions provided by the providers with whom the Medical Assistant is working.
