Job summary

How You’ll Help Transform Healthcare

The Certified Medical Assistant provides basic technical clinical services and clerical support in the delivery of quality patient care as directed by licensed staff, physician or mid-level practitioner. The role includes:

  • Providing basic clinical care and performing advanced technical skills for patients of all ages according to established standards and appropriately documenting and reporting patient observations to licensed staff.
  • Collecting patient assessment data including height, weight, vital signs, chief complaint/symptoms, current medications, and other information for assessment by licensed staff.
  • Transporting patients through the office and preparing the patient for provider evaluation, including obtaining specimens, positioning for exams, listing medications, and assisting during exams and procedures.
  • Maintaining work area, exam treatment and x‑ray rooms and lab in a clean, safe manner; restocking supplies and instruments; and sterilizing reusable equipment as needed.
  • Documenting patient information in the medical record in a timely manner to include updates to treatment procedures, medication refills, test results, patient concerns, etc. in compliance with applicable policies and procedures.
  • Observing all safety precautions and standards.
  • Assisting with lab procedures, including collecting urine specimens, collecting and preparing blood samples for reference lab, and labeling all specimens with accurate patient ID as ordered by the physician.
  • Performing diagnostic tests (EKGs, audiograms, vision testing, spirometry) as appropriate for assessment by licensed staff.
  • Assisting with referral authorizations for specialists and pre‑authorization for testing and ancillary services as directed by licensed staff, provider or mid‑level practitioner.
  • Performing clerical and office functions such as greeting patients, assisting with check‑in/check‑out procedures, updating patient demographic information, answering phones, scheduling appointments, and receiving/relaying messages.
  • Utilizing automated computer systems, including electronic medical records.
  • Performing other basic technical clinical and clerical duties relating to the operation of the practice as assigned and for which training has been provided.
  • Administering oral and parenteral medications after submitting proof of appropriate education, successfully completing orientation competency validation, and under the direct and immediate supervision of the physician.
What We Require

Education: High School Diploma or GED.
Experience: None required.
Licensure, Certification, and/or Registration: Medical Assistant Certification through a recognized national professional association such as the American Association of Medical Assistants, the American Medical Technologists, the National Association of Healthcare Professionals, the American Registry of Medical Assistants, or the National Healthcare Association. Provisional status may be granted upon receipt of a provisional passing score on the certification exam.
Life Support: AHA BLS‑HCP required.
Other Minimum Qualifications: Effective communication and problem‑solving skills; effective computer skills required for automated systems, including electronic medical records.
