Orlando Health is seeking a Certified Medical Assistant to support patient care in an ambulatory Family Practice setting in Brandon, FL. The role requires assisting physicians/APPs, gathering patient data, and documenting treatments in the EMR.

Qualifications include high school diploma, Medical Assistant training or equivalent experience, and active BLS certification along with CMA/CCMA/CMAC/NCMA/RMA-style credentials as applicable. Work schedule includes weekday hours with some Saturdays.

Qualifications

• High school graduate or equivalent.
• Successful completion of Medical Assistant training from an approved technical school (or at least one year of verifiable and applicable work experience as a Certified Medical Assistant in a patient care setting) required.
• Maintains current BLS Healthcare Provider Certification and relevant CMA/CMA variants as listed in the department requirements.

Responsibilities

• Assist physicians and APP during examinations and procedures.
• Gather patient data through interviews and observation.
• Document treatments and patient education in the EMR according to policies.
• Schedule and coordinate referrals and specialty testing for patients.
• Maintain infection control and safety practices.

Essential Functions

• Accountable to the Assistant Nurse Manager, Nursing Operations Manager, or Practice Manager for operational issues.
• Embraces and participates in quality initiatives, goal attainment, and clinical outcome process improvement activities.
• Supports and demonstrates effective and professional communication with patients and family members.
• Works collaboratively with the administrative and operations staff.
• Gathers patient data through interviews and observation.
• Assists patients and families with preparation for examination.
• Assists the physician or APP during examination and procedures.
• Demonstrates competency in specific tasks and skills as defined by the practice.
• Provides routine treatments and administers approved medication types.
• Documents patient data, treatments, procedures, and patient education according to Orlando Health and department‑specific policies.
• Assists the physician or APP by acting as a liaison on behalf of the patient to schedule and provide scheduling information for specialty testing and/or specialty physician consultation.
• Processes incoming and outgoing calls independently and professionally using sound clinical judgment.
• Enters medication, laboratory, and diagnostic imaging orders into the electronic medical system under the direction of a provider.
• Adheres to and assures compliance with Orlando Health and department‑specific policies, procedures, value statements, and Commitment to Excellent standards.
• Consistently demonstrates personal and patient safety practices and adheres to infection control standards outlined in Orlando Health policies.
• Maintains reasonably regular, punctual attendance consistent with Orlando Health policies, the ADA, FMLA, and other federal, state, and local standards.
• Maintains compliance with all Orlando Health policies and procedures.

Other Related Functions

• Demonstrates the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care and assesses data appropriate to the age-specific needs of patients in their assigned department and/or unit.
• Demonstrates awareness of medical/legal issues, patient rights, and compliance with the standards of regulatory and accrediting agencies.
• Practices efficient use of supplies.
• Assists the business office as needed with reception, scheduling, and discharge of patients.
